I find the artwork to be very charming and game mechanics to be very interesting. Great job!

That card I placed at 18:08 should have opened the Gate. I just immediately placed it and forgot about it. Oops.

Interesting game. I don’t play card games, but it looks like you put a lot of thought and artistic talent into this.

Thx. The audio is a bit muffled. I'll have to re-record it before the end of the contest, but it took all day to get a good take, so I'm glad it was helpful.

Fascinating game with great illustrations. It would have been helpful for me, who has never heard of it, to get a basic overview at the beginning of the video (win/lose conditions, general gameplay loop, types of cards) etc. How did you illustrate and print these cards? They look beautiful and immediately attracted my attention.
@DustinPorta3 жыл бұрын
This is helpful. I'll make sure to have something like that when I make my final rules video. These are the actual cards that I drew on. It's an unprofessional way to do it, but drawing in a sketchbook or on a computer just doesn't spark my creativity. Sketched in pencil, then inked them. But there's another video on my channel showing what these look like once scanned and professionally printed and I think they retain the charm.

What happens when a Monster hits a door (and doesn't have the ability to open it)?
@DustinPorta11 ай бұрын
Then you treat the door like a dead end. Nothing more happens and you go on to the next turn. But if the door is opened later the monster will get through. Thx for checking out the game. If you have more questions feel free to post them here. Though I’ll be away for a few days this week so if you need a quick answer check out the forums attached to Paperbag Dungeon’s BGG listing boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/353086/paperbag-dungeon

Q: did the tricky Goblin card need to be oriented that way when it was placed? or could have been oriented landscape like the rest?
@DustinPorta2 жыл бұрын
It could have been oriented either way. I just wanted to keep everything on screen.

Serious question, no disrespect intended: Have you considered square shape cards? Like square coasters as opposed to playing cards. Mainly, I'm just wondering what your thought process is in designing. I like to design games too and your system looks very good.
@DustinPorta Жыл бұрын
None taken. In fact, I started with square cards but moved to poker cards because I liked the aesthetic better. It had the added bonus of making card placement more challenging. Most other dungeon-building or tile-placement games do use squares. Especially ones that need the cards to be swapped and rotated after they've been placed.
@DustinPorta Жыл бұрын
Followup. I just remembered the other reason I switched. It made card flipping much easier. With square cards, you're not alway sure which axis you flipped on and you can accidentally wind up with the card facing a different direction.
@EvrydayErik2 жыл бұрын
Just to confirm - monsters are always placed on board alive? No matter if they were drawn dead?
@DustinPorta2 жыл бұрын
That's correct. Well, technically they enter play face-down, then they flip over to the live side. That distinction is usually not important though.
