I covered an early demo build of this a year ago, but the entire first episode is about to drop tomorrow on Steam and it’s VERY good. It’s got a really cool feature that allows you to upload PNG files and then draw them on the walls while playing the game. I honestly find this nowhere near as interesting or memorable as that demo; maybe I’ve just seen that video too many times and gotten attached to it, but still. Nothing that’s changed I’m really fond of: the weapon loadout (the staple gun is a meh starter and encourages safer play compared to the original’s more aggressive shotgun you used more in melee, and it takes way too long to start using pencil lead), how things are split into stages, the layout and setpieces (pretty much of the original cool setpieces, but especially the discovery of the pencil, the drawing on the meat thing and the stickman hallucinations), the introduction to combat, the crude doodles and writing in the notes (when that was a huge part of the humor and atmosphere), the storytelling and atmosphere in general (the original was pretty vague and cryptic, but in a memorable way, and it seemed like we could get a ton of info from the environment and things would come more together as you went along; this seems a little too straightforward), etc.

@@KnakuanaRka I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I still love this version, but the demo was better in my opinion. The cryptic atmosphere, the giant stickman and moon jumpscares, the way you were just thrown into the game without almost no tutorials or explanations. And the demo was more immersive: the Gianni voicelines in this version may be funny, but in my opinion they break the immersion and the atmosphere. The demo had all the notes written in a better font, a combination of latin and cyrillic alphabet that contributed to make the game feel more atmospheric and captivating, since that made the player think of the carboard people as if they were from another world of supernatural. In my opinion, the new font, which is just normal latin alphabet, makes the game's world feel more like ours and less mysterious. The demo also felt more overwhelming to the player, as if the main character was just a waterdrop in the sea, helpless against the big mysterious corporation, and the good weapons were given to the player later. Now it feels more like Doom or Wolfenstein, since you are more powerful since the very beginning. The original game, as you say, made the player wonder about the story and kept the tension and intrigue during the whole demo, and it felt more "magical" and enchanting. It threw little clues about the story by reading the notes. Specially with that final jumpscare with the giant stickman, the moon and stars and the way everything felt like a dream. The current one maybe feels more mainstream? I don't know. I still like it, and I hope the final version will restore some of the elements of the demo and become successful, since the concept is still very original and interesting.

Especially about the general atmosphere being more cryptic and memorable and the humor being more aggressive in the demo, with things like the pencil discovery setpiece, the cryptic notes with their crude doodles and font and calculator spelling, and the escalating hallucination sequences with the stickman; removing those and adding the voiceovers makes things seem a lot less immersive and more straightforward. I also agree with how the pacing and tension is nowhere near as good in this one; a lot of it has to do with the weapons and how things are divided up into stages instead of just one continuous world, but there’s a lot more to it.

i love this but there ARE a couple of things i don't like 1. the pistol deals very little damge and takes a lot of hits to kill even the small enemies 2. the bosses have other enemies swarming around them that distract from the boss itself

@@half.blight Well honestly what I remember from his earlier gameplays is sometimes he shows frustrating behavior faced with not knowing where to go or what to do in the games. Sure it may also be on the devs to poorly design certain aspects of the game or levels, but I feel like ABG is probably play the game at least once before recording, since he finishes games perfectly and probably would like lessen possible rough things and softlocks. So, why frustrating moments then? Anyways the guy like to joke around as well, and I was kind of think he's an average player who somehow found his niche in underground gaming. Sure seeing his movement and combat skills was a surprising turn of things
