Paphos Skywalk is now OPEN So lets go visit it !

Paphos Skywalk is now completed and open to the public July 2022.
Here now is the history of this project
The overhead walkway, which many people wrongly believe was a mono-rail, was part of a project initially designed via an architectural competition in August 2014.
The Paphos council has awarded the tender to contractor Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors & Developments Ltd, for a value of €2,022,000, plus VAT.
The works are underway and will be completed within eight months, the municipality said.
The walkway, which forms part of a project to integrate the archaeological sites in Paphos has been blighted with years of delays.
The municipality, after consultation and approval by Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos, undertook to complete the project, and re-announced the bids in order to do so, a spokesman said.
In December 2015, the tender for the project was announced by the department of public works (DPW) and in February 2016 a contract was signed with the successful bidder, GCC Ltd.
Construction got underway in October 2016, but was suspended in May 2018 due to serious problems in its progress. In January 2019, the DPW undertook the completion of the project through subcontractors but the work could not proceed productively, the spokesman said and was suspended again in February 2020.
So in 2020 Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos intervened and appealed to the minister that the municipality of Paphos should take over the assignment of the project and complete it.
Around 60 per cent of the work has been carried out so far, it was estimated the cost to complet the project was approx €1,500,000.00
The project was open to the public in July 2022 and the total cost was estimated at over €5,000,000 (five million euro) with a original cost being €2,022,000 (two million euro)

The rusted steel is called architectural 'weathering steel'. It's outer surface rusts rapidly to form a protective coating and it lasts decades without corroding. Thanks for your videos btw, love them

The ‘rusty’ appearance is because it’s made of corten steel. It’s a naturally occurring rust which forms a protective layer and patina. Probably last longer than the walkway. I love the look of it. Cant wait to walk along when I visit I April. Thanks for sharing!

Bloody hell is all Phapos at construction? We are going in June but I'm having doubts because I see building constructions everywhere ! It ruins the atmosphere 😒

Hi thanks for watching 👍 and taking the time to comment, yes there is a lot of building and road disruption at the moment ( last few years in fact) if you take a look at my Paphos old town vlog you will see major road works everywhere . currently down on the harbour there are lots of road works but they hope they will be finished buy summer (end of may /June) so fingers crossed 🤞 for you and all the tourists coming for holidays
