I think Blue Velvet comes in the similar belt of films where subconscious is explored upon affect of media. I hope that makes sense. Also maybe "I'm thinking of ending things" is the most recent film that does this subconscious whirlwind and deep dive into a white man's fantasy.

in the beginning of the movie on my first watch, I thought Paprika would be the orange guy's dream persona because of their hair and colors but with the doctor's face because he likes her but in the end it was the opposite. It has his hair because the doctor loves him.

Have you’ve ever seen the anime Paranoia Agent? I know it’s not a film but it is a very fun watch dealing with mental issues. I never watch animes but I enjoyed this one a lot as a kid and came back and saw it in a whole new light. 👍

I have seen it, but it's been a very long time! I need to re-watch it sometime, I remember it had a dark sense of comic humour while exploring sensitive subjects, but at the time I watched it, I felt quite overwhelmed and perplexed by it. I really need to see it again :)

The song from the film is Susumu Hirasawa's The Girl From Byakkoya, Hirasawa collaborated quite often with Satoshi Kon, I've always loved his attention to melody and that grand theatrical voice of his!
