uhm , nope? German original PSX version had the exact same, with liquid basicaly grinding fox to dust. One of the most brutal moments of my childhood (as i played MGS with 9 years and beat it with 10). And no, sadly i wasnt one among those playing the original mortal combat back then (yes i take the liberty to actualy correct that spelling error in the name).
