How to Sail Oceans

How to Sail Oceans

Күн бұрын

Idyllic coastline continues to stretch out before me as I move northeast toward Cape Breton. However, the weather is now turning noticeably cooler, now in early October. Then tropical storm Philippe emerges from the steamy tropics and, like Hurricane Lee before, is now on a direct course for the Canadian maritimes. I take that as the signal that my lease on paradise is up for this season. It is time to begin my journey south. But first I have to find a place to shelter from the storm.

Personally I think she looks better with the tanbark sails and the Gaff rig. Fully understand the cost constraints on that, but she just looks better that way in my opinion.

Funny that you should mention that, I was thinking the same thing. I do love the tan bark on Ruth Avery, it does suit her. That said, I now think she is beautiful in whites as well. I was trying to let go of the old sails, but now I really appreciate her in whites! She is some fine!

Channel "Far Reach Voyages" Cape Dory 36 after 6 year refit and some voyages installs a 25HP Beta Marine after ambivalent decision making because he doesn't like the way the 9.9HP outboard looks on his boat - Season 4 Episode 2. Glad you had some warm weather in Canada. Thanks.

Your best opening by far with this video Kevin. Thank you easing the pains of a winter too long. Time for the Canadian Government to compensate Ruth Avery and company for the promotion of the great cruising grounds of the Maritimes. I know of no other place with such spectacular, seldom visited coastal vistas. Wonderful locals with a deep seated connection to the sea makes it at the top of my list. Can not wait for Boothby's Cruising Guide to the Maritimes to be out in print. 7.5 weeks till launch!

Such a beautiful part of Nova Scotia and so untouched. Too few of our own sailors visit the Eastern Shore. My brothers and I have done it a few times and there are some great little anchorages in those bays. Brilliant sailing when the weather is good.

Great video. We are anchored in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, suggesting if you come this way, calling in this port as it is well protected with great holding, paying a small consideration for using the marina's dinghy dock. Tomorrow we are bound for Brazil.

@@howtosailoceans1423 Apparently your channel has links turned off, Kevin. He was a photographer and delivery captain and sailed his own boat, an Allied Chance 30-30. I don't know how far he sailed her, but I know it was at least from the Rio Dulce to Newfoundland. He had several articles published in Cruising World. Passed away in 2016.

Nova Scotia? Pretty sure Joshua Slocum was from there. A non swimmer and first to singlehandedly circumcise the globe via east to west Cape Horn. Also visited on THE SPRAY by Captain Pinzon bearded Captain of the famous Pinta.who took the helm for awhile while Slocum slept. Was it really him? I doubt it.Probably an angel or a demon.Christopher Columbus later said that Pinzon was the brains behind the whole mission and the the better seaman.
@howtosailoceans1423
@howtosailoceans1423 7 ай бұрын
Yes, Slocum was originally from Nova Scotia, though he sailed under the American flag (Spray hailed from Boston). He once imagined the skipper of the Pinta onboard after eating some poisoned plums.
