Eternal Paradise Lost. Nick Holmes without doubt in this era is the best death metal vocalist ever - sonorous, spacious and so utterly well enunciated.

Yes, indeed a beast. He is on my 5 top list of death metal vocalist ever along with Craig Pillard (incantation time), Masse Bröberg (Hypocrisy time), Mikael Akerfeldt (early Bloodbath time) and Takashi Tanaka (Anatomia).

Really good quality recording of a demo-level band. A Nick has a lovely deep and grovely growl for a dweeby-looking eighteen-year-old. Good times.

Is this really 1989? The quality and live production is incredibly, not to mention that even death metal was still relatively young, let alone this subgenre.

I only found this video tonight & by accident, it's hard for me to believe as big as they've become that they played at The Queens Hall at Bradford. I saw loads of bands there back in those days, mostly, I went to the smaller venue in there, it was called the 1 in 12 Club. I would have loved to have seen this & now I can. I certainly knew of their existence back then, I think they were from Halifax and I lived in Leeds. I was in a band based there, we gigged and toured extensively ourselves, mostly North & Midlands, great times, it's a shame we didn't cross paths, I love Paradise Lost & it's Great To See They're Still Doing it Today & This Video is a Classic.. Early Death Doom, Awesome. Thankyou BeerFiend666 'A Gem.' Iain UK

3:09 Anyone else noticed that the drummer wears a Nirvana t-shirt?
@ReductioadVeritas8 жыл бұрын
+7secondsfan It's not that Nirvana, this is in 1989, 2 years before Nirvana made their jump, at that point literally nobody knew what Nirvana (the band) was.
@vsanchor8 жыл бұрын
Nirvana released Bleach in '89, so it really is kind of surprising that he got to listen to the album and even get his hands on that shirt, but yes, he is actually wearing a Nirvana shirt.
@ReductioadVeritas8 жыл бұрын
honestly I doubt it these dudes didn't even tour the US at the time there's almost 0 chance for that being a "Nirvana" tshirt, probably and most likely it's a Nirvana 2002 (1988 swedish death/doom metal project) which during 1989 where just named Nirvana (they later changed the name to Nirvana when THAT NIRVANA made their debut to avoid confussion)
@billvrabel15028 жыл бұрын
+Renatto Belerofonte I thought it was Nirvana 2002 at first but if you pause this video you'll see the back of the shirt says fudge packin, crack smokin... with the Sub-Pop logo underneath, which was Nirvana's label during their early days - do a google shirt, it's an official 100% Nirvana (Seattle) shirt.
@Thirdfish8 жыл бұрын
That is the same shirt I got when I saw Nirvana play the Duchess of York in Leeds Oct 1989, they did about 6 UK dates in pubs/colleges to small audiences, this was before Grohl joined the band.
