For me It's sad they have the outstanding concepts in the recordings but since the beginning they don't care about the live sound and that became important around 2000. I don't mean the mistake at the beginning but the overall thing they deliver live to the front speakers.

actually their lives sound much better than on video, but in general i agree. PL used to have a great live sound (and from time to time they still do), but now the guitars sound quite thin (thanks to that kemper bullshit, i believe, but seeing 12 ft ninja and their line 6 stuff live makes you think a lot about how digital emulations can sound HUGE if properly set...).

Agree. Heads and cabs never sound bad live. If you want to achieve the same effect using kemper bullshit you have to take care about some other details and have your own acoustic guy. PL do something wrong though I understand how emulations are tempting as I am a guitarist myself. I've seen them live once but haven't heard anything besides the rumble...

i love emulations, and i use them a lot. but when i can use a good old tube amp (so everywhere except home... :) ) i do. i've seen many bands using digital amps live with great results (the aforementioned 12 ft ninja, Cynic, damned spring fragrantia - i'm not sure about Septic Fleash but i suspect they do it too)... sadly PL are not among them, but don't get me wrong. i've seen LOTS of PL lives, and some of them sounded great even after they switched to digital

In my opinion bands like Paradise Lost shouldn't play outdoors. Huge venues can't create the atmosphere their music demands

I tend to agree, though it is not so much something that they should not do and more that songs such as this one, with its slow movements and the debatable or perhaps tricky vocal changes, may not translate that well musically in venues large and amidst the light of day.

Writing good songs and playing with good techniques, timing, etc. are often different things for lots of bands, unfortunately. You can hear all the shit even in guitar rhythm, listening album audios. Don't wait for miracle, guys, just listen and love them as they are ❤️

It's a pity this is one of the few pro-shots we have of the band from this year. This was obviously an off performance, but listen to their performance of the Gothic album in its entirety from the same year, or some of the other shows they played this year and they were way, way more on point. Also, the audio editors at Bloodstock need to be fired or do their job better, the performances by Rotting Christ and Satyricon from this festival were similarly butchered by bad sound setups.

big mistake at 1:44 by greg and morge bigger mistake (wrong lines) at 1:59 by nick. btw, nick is a bad live singer! I left their show in october 2015 in Vienna after 3 songs … it was terrible! but I like their albums :-)

He has been having up and down in his vocal performances during the years. His live performances were terrible in middle 90s, then slowly improved until he actually sounded pretty well live (i think he got a vocal coach and quit drinking in the shows at this point). Then, he kept his decent peformances for most of the time... until they started doing "darker" stuff.. and i think he is probably drinking a lot more nowadays, they are pretty dark nowadays.. i think there is a link.. the same way greg couldnt do shit with the guitar for almost a decade... he was always "medicated"....

I expected his voice to sound more bassy like on the CD but it just felt kind of empty for a second. I got used to the overdubbed and polished stuff from the album I guess. Still a good performance and the technical difficulties oh well shit happens.

Don’t be that fanboy that’s so crazy about a band that they can’t acknowledge their mistakes. If anything, him being a founding member gives the more reason to critique something like that, you’d think someone with that level of experience would be a tighter live player.
