If you listen carefully you can see he still uses harsh vocals in some lines here, but it's more for accentuate purposes on some words/verse... vibe now feels kinda more 80's gothic bands.

I honestly prefer it this way because he's in tune. The original sounds downright amateurish and to this day I don't know how it got a pass. He was clearly out of tune. Love Nick, though. Great voice.

The band always changed styles. By the time they recorded this song, they had made their transition away from Death Doom and into Gothic/Doom Metal territory. They recorded 3 albums in Death Doom before this song came out. 1998 was no different. They had moved away from Metal in general hence why the vocals sound like they do. Nick NEVER stuck to one style of singing just like the band never really stuck to one style of music.
