I ❤️ this episode. Give us more of this. Amazing stuff about Paradou. When I mentioned in the past that Ghanaian and Nigerians are more interested in the EPL than their football. This episode proved part of my point. What happened to Julius Berger and BCC Lions? When Salim was talking about Azam, I couldn't stop thinking of those teams. At least Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are still around, but Obuasi Goldfields... solutions can and are usually at home. Get the right people in place to implement, and don't just blow money. Wishing Paradou, Stellenbosh, and Azam a great season!

Scouting networks are entrenched in West Africa. Good players don't stay there for long

@thecafcl8409 let's pretend that I know nothing about the continent and didn’t watch this video. Your point is?

@@raphcannon the exodus of the players in the 90s is what started keeping fans away from the stands. Add onto it the introduction of European TV and the local game in West Africa just couldn't compete. Local African football died in the 1990s. Countries like Tanzania which liberalized media late and had no scouts trading players abroad got to protect a bit of the local game. North Africa is a unique case because the big clubs there are entrenched institutions like say churches. They are not merely football clubs.

@thecafcl8409 excellent point. I wasn't sure at first with where you were going. However, you're right about the intro of TV. Small disagreement on my part is that leagues like Nigeria were never truly professionalized. So when South African PSL, North African leagues were stepping up. Nigeria and to an extent Ghana stuck to vibes + relying on raw talent. You can't create a sustainable product that way, that's why many clubs died in the Nigerian league, which has changed the name of how many times plus the calendar has been inconsistent... it was a matter of time before citizens found a new product and committed to entering the EPL. A vacuum had existed for too long. A better packaged league is still possible in West Africa!

My two favourite journalists in one video? 😮what did I do to deserve such happiness 🤗. Lorenz is just like you Maher, you both give these cool background stories as context for the football landscape. i loved the story of how the club was founded from the ceramics industry, interesting 🤔

I disagree with what you said at the end - I am in England and love hearing about teams in Africa as there is very little coverage over here (id love more of these in the future). btw you were right, Wrexham is just over the border in Wales. Keep up the good work!

More about Paradou AC : 23 Paradou graduates are currently playing in the Algerian Ligue 1 (excluding the players who are still in the team ). Although, I don't really understand their strategy for this season , they brought multiple older ( and average ) players to the team ( Yettou, Salem , Ait Abdesslam, Bouloudane ...etc ) who are getting playing minutes instead of the young talents ).

The fact that Stellenbosch fc is owned by Johan Rupert the richest person in Africa with a net worth of 14 billion dollars is crazy that he dint take the approach of Patrice Motspe and Sundowns in spending massive amounts of money in order to compete if he did take that approach Stellenbosch would most definitely be the richest club in South Africa and in Africa
