I just attended my first Fly-In! ParaFright Fest 2020, which was held at my training school from October 23-25...and hosted by my instructor, Michael Mixer. This video is from Saturday evening. I had such a great time and met so many pilots! Around 30 pilots were attending, and at least a dozen pilots were flying Saturday evening.
The big white tent is where most of the pilots stored their paramotors, ready to fly. There were at least 25 paramotors in the tent. Some pilots kept their paramotors in their trailers.
The weather was very cold...the high of the day was 45 degrees. There was also a good breeze, most of the time it was around 7-10 mph, with some occasional gusting....but totally flyable. Most of the pilots flying were wearing flight suits, or was just well prepared for flying in cold weather.
Saturday turned out to be the only flyable day. The area had been experiencing mostly windy days, but luckily the wind gave all the pilots a break on Saturday to allow flying.
I thought I had brought clothing suitable for flying in cold weather, but I was wrong. I had on several layers, and the cold was still penetrating fairly easily. Now I understand why most of the pilots flying brought flight suits. They seem to work really well.
So unfortunately, I was not able to fly during the fly-in. However, my friend Nick did fly and I let him use my GoPro to get some footage. He shot some really great footage.
I wish I could have flown, but I'm not at all disappointed with the fly-in. I had such a great time meeting, talking, and hanging out with so many pilots I had never met before. And got a chance to finally meet some great friends I had already met online on Facebook and in the chat of paramotor shows like Our Paramotor Nation.
Already looking forward to attending more fly-ins, and next year's ParaFright Fest!
