Somewhere, on top of one of those two biggest pyramids is my grandfather’s initials. He ran away from home at age 15, got his eldest sister to forge their parents’ signatures on enlistment papers and joined the US Navy. On a stop in Egypt, he and two buddies climbed to the top and carved their initials. This was sometime around 1899-1900.

Its a cute story but its likely a lie. The great pyramid wasn't discovered till the 1830's by 1899-1900 it was a major excavation site, he would of been shot for trying to scale it.

@@kronicassault1374 slaves were not used to build the great pyramids, but instead conscripted and voluntary skilled artisans, laborers, and farmers who would work in the off season. They were compensated, housed, fed, given medical care. You’re perpetuating a false misconception. In fact, the workers were highly revered and were buried near the pyramids with honors.

Grahm Hancock says he climbed the great pyramid 5 times, twice while it was still legal. On the south side, one step down from the top he saw "P. HANCOCK 5th of April 1916" carved into the stone. He looked at his grandfather Philip's diary, who was in Egypt during WW1, and on that very date, it said "climbed great pyramid today"

ChatGPT clocked it first shot: The carvings you see in the image are most likely examples of ancient graffiti left by workers, visitors, or explorers on the Great Pyramid of Giza. Throughout history, many people have inscribed their names, dates, or other symbols onto the stones of the pyramid. Some of the most notable graffiti on the Giza pyramids include the marks left by the original builders, including hieroglyphic symbols or workers' marks indicating the gangs or teams who were involved in the construction. However, there is also a considerable amount of graffiti left by travelers from various periods, including ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as more modern inscriptions from the 19th and 20th centuries. Given the angle and the way the carvings appear in your image, it seems like these are relatively modern inscriptions, likely from the 19th or early 20th century, when it was more common for visitors to leave their mark on historic sites. These could be names, initials, or dates, left by those who climbed to the top of the pyramid-a practice that was more common in the past. While some of these marks are now part of the history of the pyramid, they are generally considered vandalism today, and climbing the pyramids is strictly prohibited to preserve these ancient structures.

That writing is not actually as old as you might think. People have been visiting the Pyramids all throughout history. Until relatively recent times on the scale of the age of the Pyramids people would often climb them. Just as kids in school are notorious for spray painting their names on overpasses and bridges around the world people who climbed the Pyramids would carve their names into the stone. It's been going on since the last brick was laid.

Paragliding is particularly rewarding, as these semi-rigid wings have a negative glide ratio in pristine conditions. The pilot has to find lift you can't see (thermals, picture an invisible tornado funnel, just magnitudes weaker) and remain in it to gain altitude. 'Falling out' often leaves you in cold dense air heading rapidly back to earth. This is a common cause of turbulence experienced in passenger aircraft, the bumps are caused as the aircraft will suddenly sink (cold air column) then just as suddenly gain altitude rapidly in the hot air column, then back into the cold and so on. In Africa we are sometimes lucky enough to be joined by large birds of prey, vultures or eagles, it's awesome!

What exactly is the ‘discovery’ here? All I see is the graffiti left by early European explorers who took the trouble to climb to the top. Among them was the Prussian expedition of Egyptologist Richard Lepsius, who carved his graffito in ancient Egyptian, using hieroglyphs. Always rewarding to check the literature before claiming a ‘discovery’.

So did my Granny. Been using it on all my Grands for decades. Good advice. Who once said "Your names should appear only 3 times in the newspaper..."when you are born, marry and die" ?

No monkeys mentioned. "Fools names and their faces often appear in public places". Probably written by world's greatest author....Anonymous.

I was a student at AUC in the mid eighties. I climbed to the top of Khufu twice, once with three other American classmates at AUC and the second time alone. Each time, the askeris tried to stop us/me. The first time we paid bakshish to one Askari who looked out for us, told us where to climb and when to start. With that knowledge, I climbed the second time alone and no one noticed until I was 1/3 the way up. The askaris shouted, “mamnou’!!!” and fired rounds in the air. I kept climbing. Had the whole plateau on top to myself for the entire morning. I climbed down midday, unnoticed and walked away amidst the crowds of tourists and guides. Wouldn’t even think about trying it now.

@@garywheeler561 yes, in several different languages, some hacked into the stone, some scratched into it and some that looked painted by spray paint. A few lewd images also. I thought all of it was extremely irreverent. There was trash too - not a lot, mostly plastic bottles, cans and food wrappers. More people climbed up back then. In fact the first time I climbed with my classmates about a half hour after we reached the top another group of about six European tourists joined us. They stayed about an hour and climbed back down. We brought food. So, we stayed for a few hours and then went horseback riding in the desert. The second and last time I climbed, I cleaned up the trash, put it into an empty bag I brought for that purpose and brought it down when I climbed down hours later. I have photos of me from the first climb. It looks like I’m surrounded by clouds because we climbed right before dawn in the dark and when we reached the summit, the sun was just rising. We were hoping for a spectacular view of the Sphinx. However, it was in the month of September like now and all of Giza was enveloped by a thick white fog. We could see nothing beneath us, but a sea of thick white mist. It looked like we were above the clouds. Like what you see when you look out the window of a jet 30,000 feet in the air. We were pretty bummed because one of the reasons for climbing was to take in the view. However, as the sun began to heat everything up the fog began to rise. By the time Eric began snapping photos of us, the fog reached our level so it looks like we are sitting and standing on the sandstone plateau in the clouds. The fog soon cleared and the view was everything we expected.

The pyramids have crazy graffiti! Inside I remember seeing people had carved their names and dates from centuries ago - “John waseth here, 1609” that sorta thing.

God's not going to let this world go on for that long we live in the time of vulgar people while people and moral people to find people America was one of the last places where people had respect for God.. you can see that's not the case All over America today so many lost souls who could care less about Jesus Christ who think they know it all who think they have it all figured out all the word of God clearly says. In the book of Daniel that the knowledge of the wicked would increase. That many would go to and fro. This is all a revelation that we are in the last days Jesus Christ can save your soul today Jesus Christ loves you turn to Jesus Christ to be truly saved and enlightened to what's really going on
