I never understood why the Egyptian government allows them to do this?Like i understand if you set up shop close by or have a certain area just for these people and the goods their selling to the tourists but Jesus Christ man dont hassle me the whole time im there.Most of the time if i want to buy something ill walk up to you and buy it its that simple.If i dont want to buy it no amount of you screaming in my ear is going to change my mind its only going to make me pissed off and even more determined to not buy anything.I have heard so many people who have gone to Egypt and were planning on bringing their families too,friends,all to see the ancient pyramids but changed their mind precisely because of these people who ruin the trip you paid for and worked for the whole year (or few). Same with scamming and over charging tourists...You get to do it once and now you just ruined many more trips that would have happened but since you choose to scam people out of their hard earned money now they telling everyone how bad it is there,how they should avoid it,how its not worth it,and so on and on.And dont tell me how "hard life is" for these people i lived my whole life in war zones,survived a Genocide,concentration camps,and i still would never do something like this.Its shameful to be honest because your ruining everything for the hard working everyday Egyptian people who own their own businesses that cater to the tourists,restaurants,shops,hotels and so on.

It's a tricky situation, these scammers live and surround the pyramids and if the police nuisance them then it actually may escalate into semi ongoing terrorism ...the current situation is the lesser than two evils....however when the new grand museum(a HUGE project and in close proximity of the pyramids) opens everything will change, they will clean up the area since the museum project is supervised by the army and the army is the only entity that can control the locals living near and around the pyramids... the experience will be amazing...me as an Egyptian am extremely excited about it. google the museum, it will probably be the largest museum globally and that's not even taking into account the artifacts and statues inside. Just to give an idea of the magnitude of the size, the Ramesses II statue is almost four floors high and it looks tiny in the museum :)

Ive been to 80 countries including Cuba, India and all over Africa and have never experienced such aggressive salesmen ever as in this country. I even had a group of young men follow me up the river for 12 hours throwing their goods up on the boat trying to get me to toss my cash at them. There were many days I didnt even want to leave my hotel knowing what was waiting for me at the next stop. To me its called "penny smart and dollar dumb". Dont these scammers realize they are hurting tourism in their country by annoying the f*ck out of us each day which will hurt the prospect of me ever recommending anyone I know of ever traveling their....thus missing out on so many big tourist dollars. Oh and btw....the camel dude at the pyramids gave me a price for getting me up on the camel and wouldnt let me down until I gave him double that. I almost jumped off the poor camel but I was too high off the ground. Kurt....you def had more patience than I. Hope to see you out on a future travel and buy you a beer. Cheers

The pyramids were made by slaves for the rich, what do you expect?
@collin-theonlyandone22993 жыл бұрын
@@evanwilson9906 That's a perpetuated myth, I see that you are quite illiterate when it comes to history so let me enlighten you on the facts. The idea that the pyramids were built on the back of slaves was from Herodotus, who visited Egypt in the mid-5th century BCE, more than 2000 years after the pyramids were built. As "the Father of History", many of his texts are presented at face value, especially to grade school students, and so the myth continues. So I insist that, the pyramids were not built by slave labour but rather it constructed by unskilled labourers with a smaller team of skilled overseers to guide them, quite similar to what we see in architectural plans today except slightly more archaic. Archaeology has shown that the workers were paid in beer and bread, as is attested to by wall inscriptions detailing rations, as well as burials for the workers with beer and bread for the afterlife. So good job for falling for a myth, next time educate yourself before making a harsh conclusion that the pyramid was entirely made by "oppressed" slaves.
@collin-theonlyandone22993 жыл бұрын
Furthermore, the Great Pyramids, under the tenure of the reigning king Khufu, were built by a large team of workers from the farms on the Nile river who were left to work for the pharaoh when the river flooded the banks and destroyed the farms. The work, for sure, was arduous but the generous Khufu provided whole villages for workers to live in while they laboured on the Great Pyramid. On top of this, skilled workmen such as stonemasons and artisans were greatly rewarded with homes as well. There is evidence that injured workers were treated by medical professionals for sustained injuries. I would not go to say these were the musings and actions of a "callous slave owner" eh? I visited the pyramids back in 2004, and those scammers behaved like this even back then. Me and my friend took a camel ride with a guide, and during the ride our party was approached by some kind of uniformed officer, mounted on a camel himself, requesting that we paid an extra "fine" because it was after 4pm in the afternoon, and the area was supposed to be closing. Obviously, this officer had a deal with our guide. And even after the ride, our guide also asked us for an extra "tip", in addition to the price we had agreed on earlier. A taxi driver tried to re-negotiate our pre-agreed on price after we were already in the car and he was driving. When he stopped the taxi, we only paid him what we had agreed on, upon which he got really upset and tried to follow us on the street. Basically, this is what you must expect when in Egypt.
