I like your comment that no matter what your experience level, there's always more to learn. Most of these pilots are fairly low hours, and are picking up lots of real life learning experiences. Staying safe in the process is very important, and the more we can learn the better. Knowing how to land properly and knowing the wind speed/direction are essential skills pilots need. It looks like quite a few of the guys came in downwind with a lot of speed, and didn't stall or scrub off any speed before hitting the deck. Looks like another tutorial video for you, haa. Thanks as always for sharing your experiences with us all, and keeping us as safe as possible.

Watch your shadow on the ground then do a 180 and watch it again... you can judge your ground speed thus determine wind direction. You were coming in HOT.

Darren can't you speak without cursing?! :-) There is a scary side to paragliding without doubt. I hope Bob survived his crash landing without serious injury. The upsides of the sport are so enticing, to be able to take to the sky like a bird with such freedom and beauty all around you, I can see how thrilling it is! I know people who flying for many years and they are not good pilots. Few of our guys was less experience bud on end of the trip they progress really quickly. I just put best moments from flying so it may looks like they was not that good. But really is different. I am proud of all of them. They done good job 🙏
@PontusEgnell4 жыл бұрын
So you say you are going to be at the landing to guide people down. But you are not on the ground when they land/crash and you don't even recognize your pilots when they are flying. All of the bad landings could have been avoided with some help from you. It's just luck that no one else but Bob got injured.
@PeterHoldy4 жыл бұрын
Jules and Bob are fully qualified pilots. They fly on they own responsibilities and they are pilots in Commands. We always guided our 3 students safe down. But you can not guide someone whole life. Many times on training hills i was guiding guys down and they still crash. They told me that they heard everything i said but they in some reason don't follows my instruction. People sometimes freeze. Maybe it looks bad on video as you can not see whole picture. We are humans and we all make mistakes, no mathers how PRO you are ! Thank you for watching 👌
@PontusEgnell4 жыл бұрын
I'll admit I didn't know who's a pilot and who's a student. The two guys crashing at the landing site looked like they needed some guiding but perhaps they should be able to land safely on their own. That small landing site is however quite tricky and I've seen A LOT of crashes and bad landings there. In retrospect maybe you should have made a more extensive briefing, called out wind direction on the radio or be prepared to guide down people the first few times the landed there if you saw them doing something wrong? Accidents can of course happen anyway.
@PeterHoldy4 жыл бұрын
@@PontusEgnell Thank you, as you can see this is day 4 so everyone has briefing 4 times minimum. You can see on my first day that guide from Zero gravity Luisma is shoving us all landing options and all types of approaches. Jules landed 10 times on same landing area with no problem but on landing 11 he crashed and i caught it on camera. Trying to show people that you can make simple mistakes like do not check wind direction and that can bring you in to the big troubles. Many people just see 5% what was actually going on and they telling my that i should not be , instructor, coach because my people crashing on this trip. But if they will see background and how much responsibilities and hard work it was too keep 10 people happy and safe , then i believe everyone will change mind. I am not perfect, learning every day and doing my best to be one of the best instructors out there! Many people showing on social media how good they are , but no one showing your not good site. I know people will be putting comments like yours, but anyway i still posted my videos as i want to help others. As i believe when people see crashes and explanation why it happens so they can learn from it and hope they will stay safe in similar conditions. Cheers for watching 🙏 take care , stay safe !👍

Hi Peter What vario are you using?
@PeterHoldy4 жыл бұрын
I using second hand" flytec 6015" gps vario. If you learning just buy really simple and cheap vario. Then when you will do XC then buy GPS. Or if you want spend money then any you like 👍

@@PeterHoldy Peter, mobile phones have GPS and sound, etc, is it feasible to use a modern Android phone with an app as a vario device? For instance: FlyMe flight instrument for Android optimized for paragliding?
@PeterHoldy4 жыл бұрын
@@barrywebber100 yes you can use your mobil phone with Android or IOS. On market you will find bluetooth varios which you can connect to the phone. Or you can use just Phone , barometer , gps buid in. There are just 2 down sites. 1 sometimes you can not read from phone display any info as you flying in sun/ bright environment. 2 battery life of your phone will go down really quickly. You can prob. log 1h flying time. You can buy battery pack/power bank. I preferring simple instruments which will last for hours and hours with out thinking my phone will die and i won't be able to call anyone when i will get in to the troubles. I flying now around 4 years and only using simple instruments.
