Quick explanation: This is the technique used by Chrigel and many others in the last Edition of the X-Alps. You basically initiate a (steep) turn (using brakes) towards the slope and push speedbar as soon as you start to dive. How much speedbar depends on the slope angle, how far you are away, etc. Just before hitting the slope you release the speedbar (how fast depends again on many factors) and thus start to climb parallel (if you're doing everything right) to the slope, pull your brakes and you're landed. I started practicing with snow and almost nullwind as well as flat slopes at first and then gradually went steeper. ‼️Please be very careful when practicing this maneuver because you can quite easily fuck this up real hard in the beginning. This is a very advanced technique and requires a good amount of experience and glider control‼️ Ps: Don't pay too much attention to the rear riser steering, I'm just using them for minor corrections (although it looked much more extreme), you definetly DON'T need them to execute the maneuver! If you use them pay attention to not stall your wing pulling them too deep which can happen quite easily depending on the glider and where you are in the maneuver‼️😬

Thanks for the explanation, it is very useful! Can you explain what are the point of doing this kind of landings? I mean I what situations should it be more useful a frontal landing than a normal one?

@@emusxx with more speed you get more flare power for landing. so if you have a downwind landing or a steep uphill landing, you'll land softer.

Interessant!

Lovely landings and the practice looked great ..

Wow I had a lot of questions about landing on the slopes these days, but I appreciate your simple and clear explanation of the key. I need to draw a virtual slope in the sky and practice it. Then I'll start with the flat slope as you say.🏔🪂 great video.

Awesome montage. Would be pretty interesting to see a compilation of these landings aswell. During landing you always use the speedbar and rear risers to do minor corrections? I'm training flare landings and at the moment I'm only doing energic 90° turns and use that energy to do the final glide close to the ground. Mind that I currently fly a Base 2. Do you have any suggestions?

educate me. Why are you pulling on your right riser just before you land? To initiate a harder turn?
@mauricekoller4 жыл бұрын
I wrote a quick explanaition and pinned it above, rear risers don't need to be used, I use the brakes to initiate the turn and the use my B risers for minor correction, but you definitely need to know how much rear riser you can pull at which speed and pitch to not stall your glider, better try it without them 😉 Maybe I can do a more detailed video when Corona is over since I haven't done too many attempts myself being grounded by Corona...

maurice koller yes please do. I think the volbiv pilots have this trick on their to learn list and let’s just say that XALPS examples are awesome, but hard to learn from. This was already very insightful. Thanks for sharing.

@mauricekoller4 жыл бұрын
