Sorry, but i think the luck here was much higher than the skill. Don't unterstand me wrong, Boris belongs surely to the Top 1% Pilots of the world. But in this moment the luck was, that the Dustdevil put him "high enough" to recover and "released" the wing in a flyable position.

I must admit, I held my breath when you were snatched off launch. It looked like you were buggered for a second there. Looks like you kept a cool head and managed a difficult experience. Lucky the glider was so solid, so quickly and so close to the ground. I hope you have lots more great launches, flights and landings without the sudden starts. Cheers

Wow, that was scary to watch! "Untwist as you have learnt", that is something I want to see a Flybubble episode about. An instruction in this.

Would keeping the glider bundled in hand until space further away from the crest of the hill becomes clear keep things safer?
@MegaFPVFlyer7 жыл бұрын
That was terrifying to watch. When you got flung into the air, I thought I was about to watch you fall back down and break half the bones in your body...
@MandolinSunrise5 жыл бұрын
Glad he's ok. That seems like a lot of stress on the glider, maybe not. Anyone know, was the glider checked out after the flight and how would it's flight characteristics have changed?
@MandolinSunrise4 жыл бұрын
Ahh no, a year ago I bought an octave mandolin (which I love) instead of a paraglider, now I’m thinking of the fun of flying again. Thanks! :)

I just bought a epsilon 9 and all the lessons for $5,400. I'm not sure where I live it's my hills and ridges will even support flight because mathematically it's a complex as a devil's bowels around there. But I know one thing we got the dust devils. I saw Greg hammerton walking around in a very low wind using his wing like an antenna sniffing for an updraft. Thanks for posting this I'm doing as many hours of online video research of dust devil watches to figure out how to make it work for me.

Dust Devils are very strong thermals... Keep some distance from even small peaks and ridges... These are triggers... The unlucky(and also lucky) pilot is the closest to the ridge... Safe flights for all...

David Derrida Read the post over at flybubble but basically keep the wing on the ground with either your C lines or by stepping on it
@davidderrida39247 жыл бұрын
Christoph Stich, frankly, with regard to the violence and strength of that sudden gust, it doesn't look at all like firmly holding the brakes or even stepping on them would have been enough.
@christophstich50667 жыл бұрын
David Derrida that's what the flybubble guys posted in their blogpost, but I would guess that stepping on the wing would kill it, no?

Hi I am from Germany, can anyone explain what a dust devil means or what it is? :)
@tomfrom63243 жыл бұрын
Cold air and warm air mixing exactly as the Flybubble explanation . In the case of the Chabre these dust devils are more common when a northerly airflow is mixing with thermic south face updrafts
@tomfrom63243 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t be brave enough to tie myself to a tornado hook next to that spineback. Looks like a strong argument not to hang around on launch with your wing out.

the idea of reaching up above a twist or two to steer is fraught and must be the exception rather than the rule... for a start it is hard to know many things and get the right controls and apply in a judicial manner but more importantly is it is done with one hand and requires rolling in the harness and commonly catches your hand and glove so you now got one hand and are weightshifted toward spiral... ... better to relegate this idea to extreme ideas that can make it more likely you weight shift into a spiral and deal with that energy ... basically bad advise to try to reach above... ineffective and firstly more dangerous than not reaching (weightshifting).... if your twisted centre your weight and backfly if you can or just kick it out
