Parallel Compression for Drums - The QUICK Way! (Logic Pro X Tutorial)

In this tutorial we’re going to look at a fast and easy method for utilizing parallel compression within Logic Pro X - specifically for making your live drums sound bigger and punchier! While this video focuses on using Logic Pro and the Waves SSL G-Master Buss Compressor plug-in (www.waves.com/plugins/ssl-g-m...) you can apply these fundamental steps to any DAW and compressor plug-in you like.
You may have heard of a very similar approach to parallel compression called New York Compression; there are varying opinions on what makes these methods different (mono vs stereo compression for example) but for all intents and purposes they achieve the same goal (if I’m wrong then yell at me in the comments) :P
Remember, the guidelines I covered in this tutorial (relating to attack, release, ratio, and threshold settings in the compressor) may not work identically for your own music, so use your EARS when mixing and adjust to WHAT SOUNDS BEST!

Great demonstration thanks ! I just wanted to add that it would be more suited to make the bus going for parallel com in Pre Fader, so that changes in volume fader won't affect the overall result

Thanks Nev! Yeah the SSL G-master Buss Compressor I used in the video is by Waves, although there are many 3rd party options for the same style plug-in. But actually Logic Pro’s compressor plug-in has a “Vintage VCA” mode which is based off of the SSL Buss Compressor, so you can apply the same technique with that!
