Thanks. An excellent tell-it-as-it-is review. How refreshing. Off to buy some [Paramo trousers - not sure which model] this week...
@WildcraftBritain7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick. Thanks for that- as an end user, I always give reviews after use, (thats why I tend to look tired)! I like to have owned it for a while too and I don't release the vids till another few months of owning and using. I have ditched vid's on products that failed before their time. Paramo is tops, not perfect, but the best I have found, especially for the UK climate- the trousers remain one of their best areas- the new Cascada cut is good, (my friend has a pair and I am working on a video on these). They, IMO, offer the best alround value at present. The Enduro's are great, and my choice at present, but they are a premium item with a premium price. Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy

Thanks. I shall. I find the Country Innovations Ventile coats good for woodlands etc where there is a real chance of snagging. However, it is just too heavy for hill walking. I may just lighten my bank balance this weekend if I find some Cascada trousers.

Great review, i couldn't make my mind up whether to buy the Paramo Helki jacket or a Saltoro mountain equipment jacket so i bought both and like the Paramo so much that ive never tried the mountain equipment one on since i bought it, Its my grab and go jacket , i also bought Cascada 11 trousers and love them . It'll be Paramo for me from now on .

Yep, for damp, humid, wet environments, (like the U.K.), it can’t be beat 👍🏻 it’s the fact it moves liquid water away, not just water vapour- masked it feel like a second skin (or fur ☺️)- enjoy your outdoors time- Andy

Paramo cascada 2 trousers... Have been fantastic for my cold weather hikes... Also the other pair for my commute to work in cold wet weather... Absolutely love them... They also look smart unlike the older trousers...which I found way to baggy... New ones are a really nice fit much more trim and fitted...

Hi Bob, I've had a lot of use from mine too, much more than my old Cascada I's as they're much better cut and lighter. Despite finding a belt (Fjellraven Keb) that did an OK job I've never been completely satisfied with the all-day comfort of using my Cascada ll's with a belt. Having decided that the waistband, and the belt loops in particular, aren't really up to the job I've got mine in for alteration at a local tailor's to have loops added for braces. I've chosen Rab's excellent x-type, ie four-point braces, with their low-profile slide-in clips and I'm having four webbing loops applied to each pair of trousers to attach them. Andy mentioned in his review of the Cascada I that he sometimes used braces with them and having had the same problem with a pair of Velez trousers too I've seen the light and I'm going over to braces. I've suggested to Paramo that they add loops to future incarnations of the Cascada to allow users this option. Ill let you know how my alterations turn out when I get my kecks back from the tailor.

Hi Bob, got my Cascada II's back and pleased with the work the tailor carried out. He replaced the front loops with combined braces/belt loops in the same position and removed the rear belt loops, positioning loops like the front ones correctly to match with the twin clips of the braces. A neat idea of his to enable the use of a narrow belt if need be.

@@danceswithbadgers hello... Firstly apologies for the late reply... Sounds like your have found a good solution for the cascada trousers.... I'm sticking with a belt for the moment. Blue good to know that I can follow your idea in the future... Worn the cascadas so much last few weeks... Performed absolutely fantastic.... Stay safe my friend....
@danceswithbadgers2 жыл бұрын
@@bobmarley6161 Hi Bob, yes the Cascada II are unassailable in inclement weather and I've always found them a practical and lightweight option. Certainly nicer and lighter than a softshell/overtrouser combination. Comfort with the braces is improved even further and I've soon become used to them. I'd go so far as to say I'd probably not consider trousers without provision for braces when purchasing in future, though adding them, as I've discovered, is an easy enough process.

Braces. I use braces but do these trousers have loops for braces?
@WildcraftBritain4 жыл бұрын
No, they don't. I have used clip-ons with mine. The enduro's do have loops, but are a much greater price. You could attached your own without damaging the material performance. Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy

Another fantastic review! I purchased the trousers after seeing the video. Can I ask what braces you have, clipped or button as just wondered if the clipped would damage the delicate fabric. Thanks, Barry.
@WildcraftBritain5 жыл бұрын
HI Barry, Thanks, glad you found it useful. Firstly, I would not describe the material as delicate! It might look it, but its tough for its weight, (not that I'm saying its indestructible, but if you see my first beast from the east video, I am waring a 17 year old jacket, that's still in front line use and there is no damage to the outer fabric, which is impressive in my view). On this vid I am using cheap clip braces, from Highlander. They are still in use, but I own a pair of Enduro's now and I have a pair of Mountain Equipment braces, that are excellent, (these are button but the Enduro has loops). Not an easy item to get hold of and seemingly underused in the outdoor community. To give the full story, I did rip the bottom of my Cascada's falling on sharp rock in Scotland. I just sewed it up and all was well. Paramo do a repair service too. For around £50 they would have sown in a new seat to the trousers, (as well as dry-cleaning and re-proofing), so you have that back up also. It took me at least 10 years to put a hole in them though! I am careful with my kit, but as you can see from my travel vids, it all gets used well and for the purpose it was designed! Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy

But are they waterproof?

They are as waterproof as good gore-tex, but they are not waterproof when compressed against water, (unlike gore), so no good for lying down or kneeling in puddles (such as a hunter may do)- enjoy your outdoors time- Andy 🏕🏔🌀

Hi, It’s a bit of a piece of string question, as it depends on what season it is and what the weather is like, for example I was wearing Odlo base layer leggings under my trousers to summit the Munro’s on the second day as it was very cold, but not on the first, as the wind was much less and so it was warmer, (on the trip the vid was made). I also run warm as a rule. I find Paramo warm and tend to use little under it. Others don’t. As for wild camping, I find it great in cold weather as it cuts down the amount of clothing I take. That said, it’s not fire retardant, so around wild fires I don’t use it, it really depends on the camping trip. So hard questions to answer quickly. Paramo is not perfect, but it’s the best I have found. As for leaking, it sounds like they need to wash and reproof more often. If this is not done, issues arise. The best thing about Paramo is that it’s just so dam comfortable to ware, unlike the hard shells I have owned. Hope this helped ;D

Hi Bob, I have an old pair of Cascada I's as well as a pair of the lighter Velez trousers and having purchased a pair of Cascada II's I can say that the cut of the II's is way slimmer than either the I's or the Velez. They actually fit like proper trousers rather than clown pants! The materials all seem a tad lighter and softer than the old Cascadas and they're comfortable to wear all day - inbetween lockdowns I was wearing them for my six-mile walk to and from work, in an outdoor shop, and all day in the shop too, which is something you wouldn't want to do in any other waterproof trouser! Only one slight negative is the flimsy belt loops and the slightly unstructured waistband, but after a bit of trial and error I found a belt that did the job of beefing up the waistband and didn't squirm around in the belt loops - a Fjallraven Keb belt. All day comfort is assured and no need to carry or mess about putting on/taking off overtrousers. Three different leg lengths in most waist sizes too, including my own. Try finding a waterproof trouser in Small/Long anywhere else! Hope this helps.
