I think the pinnacle for Paramore was their Riot album. It had the edgy angry lyrics and music whilst being super catchy. Brand new Eyes was more pop and rock and since then the band has moved towards pop music. Initially, Paramore was a collaboration between Josh Farro writing the edgy music and Hayley writing the lyrics however they broke up romantically between Riot and Brand New Eyes and the songs changed as he left the band. Their last album was so bad I didn't even purchase it. Paramore without Josh Farro just isn't the same.

For those of you that don't know this: Hayley wrote this song about abusing love. She's talking about what it was like when her parents separated and then divorced. Most of the time when parents divorce they don't discuss it with the children. They just assume that the children can just move on while they witness their parents at each other's throats. My parents separated 6 weeks before I turned 7 years old. Then they divorced a few months after I turned 7. It was like a battlefield. They were constantly arguing about everything for years and years. And it didn't stop until I became an adult.

I'm also turning 27. (in 2020 though) I didn't buy this CD in 8th grade. But I do still love this band and their albums. Though I haven't been listening since Brand New Eyes. I just didn't enjoy Paramores's self-titled album. Idk if their music improved after that. I'm kind of a stubborn person when it comes to listening to new music. I prefer listening to music I loved as a teenager, even when many of my favorite bands still release new music. I did nooot have a CD player in 8th grade though. I had some kind of MP3 player. Don't think it I had got my first iPod Touch yet back then though and I still had a flip phone, even in 2012. It took me so long to get my first smartphone. I don't miss 'the old paramore', they're paramore regardless of what they decide to do. I miss their old muscial style, though. Only have a single song from their latest album, their tastes changed a bit too much for me. Compare... emergency to music from the last album. Sounds like a completely different band, although, yes, technically speaking, they are still paramore.

English isn't my native language so usually I just go through the motion of the music. All these years I've listened to this song, only now I actually stopped to pay attention to the lyrics and there's just a beautiful message in it. I know now that it's about Hayley's parents' divorce, but when she says: "I can't pretend that I don't see this" and "you deserve to be alive"... it just sounds like she's trying to make a call for help to save someone with heavy level depressi0n. I can imagine she went through that at the time and maybe her parents told her these words, but I really appreciate her putting them in the song. For anyone that may feel like this, know that you're not alone, it's really an emergency and you should seek for help. And if you see someone going through this, don't pretend to not see it and try to help. We all deserve to live.

I know they were on a low budget with this album but I love the mix for this! It’s like she’s doing call and response with herself. She says “i think we have an emergency” twice and it’s followed by double vocal stacks (in unison). Basic or not, it’s very fitting for the song 🙌🏽 I hope they re-record the whole album (just for fun) for the 20th anniversary, though it probably wouldn’t hit the same when Josh isn’t there
