LYRICS
I scraped my knees while I was praying and found a demon in my safest haven
Seems like it's getting harder to believe in anything than just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts
I wanna know what it'd be like to find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
Or turn it off in all my spite
In all my spite I'll turn it off
And the worst part is before it gets any better we're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom
The tragedy it seems unending
I'm watching everyone I looked up to breaking, bending
Taking shortcuts and false solutions just to come out the hero
Well I can see behind the curtain
The wheels are cranking turning
It's all wrong the way we're working towards a goal that's nonexistent
It's nonexistent but we just keep believing
The worst part is before it gets any better we're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom
I wanna know what it'd be like to find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
and turn it off in all my spite
In all my spite I'll turn it off
Just turn it off
Again

I'm in my 30's and I've loved Paramore since Riot!. There's more going on here than meets the eye. If their new one doesn't make sense, spend some time with the 80's first.

I'm 28 years old, and this remains, after all these years, my favorite song. I now realize what it's like to be my father jamming out to the same songs he listened to in his teens. Who we were as teens is something we'll never really lose.

After crying to this song as a teenager, I'm crying even harder to it as an adult. I thought I understood this song before but feeling so alone in the world lately, I feel like it just hits so much harder. I thought I was so alone as a teen, and I was. I guess this song just brings back those feelings of desperation and loneliness, on top of current feelings of desperation and loneliness. I don't know how someone could write such a true song. What is this existence even for?

It is really hard to live in this world alone, and It Just seems we get every time more alone, Sad, and afraid as we get older. And sometimes we feel like we deserve way more than we have, and we do, but we have to keep going even If the end does not feel like its going to get any better "Toward a goal its not exiting, it's not exiting .... But we Just keep believing"

Don't be sad life is to live enjoy experience you cannot question things that there are no true or false answers to or you will get stuck repeating the question you should try to find your true your false what is important to you in life. Hearing Hayley's voice heals me. Idk why, but Paramore has always been my safe haven. Listening to their songs makes me want to curl up in bed and hide in my comfort zone. I mean, if the world is fcking me up badly, they're the ones I want to be with. They are my escape from everything. Idk if I make sense here. But yeah, they saved (and still saving) me.

@Green Lion true!! And she also sings with all of her passion, all her human emotions can be felt in the songs, all the hopelessness, and all the happiness. She is singing her true life experiences, and that's why I love it so much! Of course, never forgetting to talk about the lovely guys that accompanied her as true friends, that connected so beautifully to create such inspiring music!

Same. I recently came back to them a few months ago, after a decade or so, and listened to every album and couldn't believe how amazing they've always been. No matter the change. The evolution is great. I can't wait to see them in June on my Birthday. I thought i would never in my life pay what I paid for my ticket, but I just had to. I'm definitely showing up early and pushing myself right to the front. Block Party is also a really good band I liked when I was younger so that should be pretty cool to see them before they play. Hope you have a great time at the concert. 😊

These are one of tour best years my friend.. even if its hard.. u will look back and remember your youth and raw emotion.. Its hard to hold on to that intensity of life . Most of the lyrics in this song have such a deep meaning. Growing up it didn't really make much sense, all I got from this song was being in a relationship that was going nowhere. It's like being alone and seeing what the world we know has or will become after losing that one person who means the world to you. I'm just happy to discover this song again.

I can relate to the lyrics because the girl I love left me on our 4th anniversary.. She said she didnt want to create expectations.. She is afraid of loving me.. That's why I always cry when I hear this song, especially during the chorus.. To top it off, during the same week that my gf broke up with me.. A friend of mine died.. I feel so torn, so sad, so lost.. All I do nowadays is cry and listen to this song over and over again.

This song has what I like to call "connection" to When it rains. A song 2years before this one yet if u pair them up the connection is strong. The songs both show perspective. Turn it off is a song from the perspective of the depressed/wants to end their life. When it rains is from the perspective of a friend of the depressed/or those who already ended it

The lyric is relatable to me. As someone who always question and curios about religion. I wonder what it would be like to be a faith follower and I just cant do that. I always get lost in my thought and keep questioning myself. In the end, I'm better off being free. Too many false illusion and keep seeing what behind the curtains. Working on a goal that its nonexistent but everyone just keep believing.

It's rare -- and I mean RARE -- for a popular band to have the versatility, uniqueness, and just bad-ass-ness of Paramore. Honestly, a lot of their songs can hold their own against many indie tracks. I love this band. It keeps growing on me.

Related to this, misguided ghosts and we are broken a lot when I had depression. Paramore helped me so much and I grew up with them. One day when I've got a job then I'm going to get a lyric from misguided ghosts tattooed as a reminder of my own strength and how much music helped me

In my interpretation, this song is about depression and sadness because of being an perfectionist and other personal problems. Insecurities, breakups, you name it. Sounds cliché but you know that feeling were you have "selfish thoughts" because of "non existent goals?" because of high expectations in success? Yep, that's how I understand this song.

Turn It Off Paramore I scraped my knees while I was praying And found a demon in my safest haven, seems like It's getting harder to believe in anything Then just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts I wanna know what it'd be like To find perfection in my pride To see nothing in the light I'll turn it off In all my spite In all my spite I'll turn it off And the worst part is Before it gets any better We're headed for a cliff And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom The tragedy, it seems unending I'm watching everyone I looked up to break and bending We're taking shortcuts and false solutions Just to come out the hero Well I can see behind the curtain (I can see, yeah yeah) The wheels are cranking, turning, so on the way we're working Towards a goal, that's non existent It's not existent, but we just keep believing And the worst part is Before it gets any better We're headed for a cliff And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom I wanna know what it'd be like To find perfection in my pride To see nothing in the light I'll turn it off In all my spite In all my spite I'll turn it off Just turn it off Again Again And the worst part is Before it gets any better We're headed for a cliff And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom And the worst part is Before it gets any better We're headed for a cliff And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom

Okay so, Paramore=MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME. With that being said, a funny story about this song. I had it set as my alarm to wake up for school (around the time the album came out) and still to this day my sister has horrible memories from waking up to this song every morning. She hated school. Paramore THEN. NOW. FOREVER. 2024- Brittani

I've not listened to Paramore in years but now that I'm 22, with the pandemic and all the adulting, I just needed some comfort music to get through the day. My favorite verse: My sister was a dancer, but she got cancer. The doctor said she had two months more. I thought I had time, so I waited in line for the new iPhone at the Apple Store. She lay there dying with my father and mother. Her last words were, "Where is my brother?"
