Here's something to gnaw on. At one point, Paramount also owned Sega during a time when it was also an American company but with major involvement in Japan. How Sega wound up being Japanese: Gulf+Western, then parent of Paramount, lost Charles Bluhdorn, the founder and leader of the company, in the mid 1980s. New leadership at Gulf+Western wanted to focus the company entirely on movies and television through Paramount, electing to sell off all other assets, including Sega. David Rosen, one of the founders of Sega Enterprises, led a Japanese buyout of the company from Paramount. It's a funny coincidence, then, that the Sonic movies would be from Paramount in association with Sega, and this stemmed from the production being moved from Sony Pictures.
