This was my favorite part of the movie. They nailed the whole Halloween party. Clever to show Karen in more than one Halloween costume, fresh arrangements that leave space for the stage version to be its own thing, not having the whole song take place in one location (maybe obvious that was going to happen since it's film but you know), adding in the "Duh" at the end, from the original movie line, having the Cady and Gretchen exchange placed where it is in the song, and all of the ensemble or featured extras in the scene, cool choreo, casting Avantika as Karen, and just everything. I was sooo happy in the theater!

People do realize that this song is supposed to be ironic, right? It's not encouraging young women to base their worth on their appearance, it's quite the opposite. Some of you are taking the 'modern feminism ' line way too seriously.
@Eman-vp6ju9 ай бұрын
It's actually pretty feminist to relinquish the notion of "feminine vices." Society loves shitting on every harmless interest teenage girls have (makeup, boybands, twilight, etc), and this take on the song encourages reveling in that harmless girlyness.
@PurpleMoonFlute9 ай бұрын

"I can be who I want to be AND sexy" that's literally the whole point. It really isnt even a satire if you take away the goofy costume choices, the goofy costumes are just the vessel for showing that you can be whatever tf you want AND also be sexy if that's what you want. You can be a doctor, a lawyer, a politician, or a civil rights activist while not giving up the things that make you look/feel cute/pretty/sexy just to be taken seriously. You can run the world in ridiculously high heels if you want to and it doesn't take away from your abilities to do the job.

@@Eman-vp6ju TIME FOR A HOT TAKE. Lets go through the harmless girly things you listed one by one: #1 Makeup. Makeup is a 2.3 billion dollar industry that takes money almost exclusively from women, and gives it, in large majority to a few extremely wealthy men. Women use it to compete in a red queen's race against one another for the attention of men. #2 Boybands. Boybands are propaganda made by those same wealthy men, presenting an image of a perfect male that no real male could ever stand up to. It is the thing that girls are trying to get when they put on the makeup, but will never achieve because that idealized man does not exist. A boyband member who is beautiful and loves you unconditionally and would never cheat lie or rape is worth makeup. Real men are not. #3 Twilight. WHAT. This was a story where the girl's love interest stalks her, wants very much to bite her and drink her blood, is hundreds of years older than her (A TEENAGER), and does stuff like just dump her in the woods because she got a papercut. It is a peak example of old women with poor survival instincts writing danger porn that impressionable teenagers get conditioned on and then seek out terrible men in real life because of. Phew. I just watched the movie last night. and as a 31 yr old heterosexual male who loved the first movie but also loved hsm. i expected this to be a LOT worse. i liked it a lot and all the songs were fucking SIIIICK. this being one of my favorites and IN MY OPINION its better than any version of the Broadway version with my favorite part other than the obvious dance break part being that she not only KIIILED the "vegetation" but the "i give u sexy corn" scratches the brain in ways i could never explain AND is better than the broadway version 1:57 this movie FUCKS. and idc what anyone says

Avantika was my favorite in the movie! I think she was the most faithful to the original Karen from the movie and also from the musical. Her energy was extremely in character!

This Karen was every bit as entertaining as Amanda Seyfried's Karen. Mean Girls 2024 is so underrated and deserves more appreciation!

Kate Rockwell had a unique take on being vapid in the Broadway production too. Three iconic Karens.

As someone who wasn't aware there is a Mean Girls musical I can say this was probably the best part of the movie because it retains the sex related humor of the original film. The cast is great I just don't get why they sterilized so much the movie to the point of making the "pg-13" joke when the original movie was also pg-13 lol. A lot of classic teen movies (2004 Mean Girls are obviously part of this) became iconic because they were able to work with the sex topic and give life lessons at the same time.
@Ranga359511 ай бұрын
they didn't sterilise it, this movie is a movie adaptation of the broadway musical, there are differences between that and the 2004 film. all 3 (2004 movie, Broadway musical, and this movie) were written by Tina Fey. some of the changes also have to do with the changes in culture and society between 2004 and now (for example using the d word to describe Janis wouldn't go down well today)
@AlexeBriand200211 ай бұрын
@@Ranga3595except the musical uses the d word and it’s only from 2018…
@Ranga359511 ай бұрын
@AlexeBriand2002 the musical started in 2017, and that was still 7 years ago (not really a short amount of time) and there was a lot of societal change in that time... you really think it's okay to have a movie set in 2024 that uses that word as the insult the source material had it as? No.
@mariosoriano465011 ай бұрын
@@Ranga3595yeah that is why I clarified first that I didn't know about the musical lol. Now about changes in society. First I have to say I'm only talking about humor not about terminologies that were offensive, also I'm not from the USA and I was a kid when this movie came out so i don't know what you mean with d word lol but hey I'm all in to take away offensive terminologies. Now going back to my original point, It's funny because in the early 2000s sex was a big part of comedy teen movies because sex IS a big part of being a teenager and the movies were made for those teenagers. Now those movies are made for the adults who are ready to cancel everything like they don't know or don't want to acknowledge kids these days are MORE sexual active than 20 years ago and humor about the topic could help a lot to make them understand things. It's not about watching sexy women in short outfits. it's about the "realism" of being a teenager and how silly over the top movies like American Pie for example can talk you about changes in life and love.
@Ranga359511 ай бұрын
a lot of the humour was modernised since its set in today's time instead of 2004, and the new movie still does go into sex as much as the 2004 movie does. The 2004 film did its exposition in their voice-overs but since this one is from Broadway all of that is in song and As for the part about cancelling, that's mainly done by the younger people really.

Easily one of the best songs in the new movie. One of the most wholesome things about the OG movie, the stage musical and this movie is how Gretchen and Karen seem to be the only two plastics that care about one another as friends. Gretchen looks after Karen when she says something ridiculous and Karen is the only one who catches her in the trust exercise. It's sweet.

i like the details of the corn girl being the only one (other than regina’s mom, who’s dressed as a bunny in reference to the original movie) to drink in her tiktok, and then she’s the one to throw up at the party while holding the same red solo cup
