Hi Dr. Goertz. Just wanted to send a quick note of appreciation for your open-minded and balanced approach to psych. I'm a med student interested in this field, and also am interested in energy medicine/ holistic healing that involves this additional dimension to things. Not quite sure how it will all fit together yet, but have been enjoying watching your videos as I take study breaks, so thank you!

I love how you present this. I think there has been a lack of psychologists learning that people can have these experiences and arent in need of medications. Great video

Thank you so very much for keeping an open mind! That was so reassuring. I had an experience three years ago, which I knew to be profound. I’d never come across spiritual awakening, or ever read anything about it, but I know what happened. It was diagnosed as a ‘psychotic episode’, which I totally refute. There was a depth of understanding which I had never experienced before, or since, but was life changing. Unfortunately, having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder many years ago, there are already pre-existing perceptions in the minds of some of the medics who I have seen. Interestingly though, there are professionals, who are also prepared to keep an open mind, and accept that nor all of what we experience can be explained away simply. Thank you for your fascinating insights!

Love this. “Biochemical correlates” - doesn’t every behaviour or action we exhibit technically have a biochemical correlate of some degree? I believe that hallucinations/ delusions can tell us something profound about the psyche when analysed. There is often a truth that connects back to the conditioning of the inner child. PS. you have to try DMT before you die!

We are biological organisms, so there is always a biochemical aspect. I once heard a patient say he was hearing his father’s voice demeaning him; his father had been abusive in the past.

Hello, I am actually glad you posted this video. I'm currently pursuing a B.S in Psychology at a Christian University I will be a senior this summer. The school incorporates the Bible in all their programs. My religion is non-denominational so I definitely believe in spiritual warfare. I have had spiritual attacks where a supernatural entity would come while I'm in a lucid state to choke me or put weight on my entire body where I could not move, speak or open my eyes. Science would call this Sleep paralysis but in spiritual warfare this is called a spiritual attack/ witch riding you. These attacks started with my mother when I was a kid. She would see dead people, know things before it happened and a lot of other things I used to think she was crazy but when I got older it happened to me as well. Now that I'm married my husband has also had multiple spiritual attacks. Now if we were to go to a psychiatrist we would all be deemed unfit. But in a non denominational religion this is proving to be spiritual attacks. In Mark 5 Jesus heals a possessed man from a demon. In regards to the man that told you his deceased wife came to have sex with him that was most likely a spiritual spouse that took on the form of his late wife in order to have sex with him. I have made a video of this on my channel as well. After stating this I also wish to study as a Christian Psychiatrist but the issue that I'm having is that I do not believe in taking modern medicine and this is due to my background as a herbalist. My wish is to approach this field with alternative medicine but not really sure if that is sufficient or allowed in this type of work.

Alternate medicine is a great everyday practice to prevent sickness before it happens but please if you have serious issues like cancer then it is best to let modern medicine remove it and use alternatives to help this process. Your diet is medicine too, plant based high in antioxidants

The paranormal connection in my mental health and others is there. Unfortunately the paranormal is so abstract mainstream steers clear. But in my experience and even well documented historical ones of hauntings and possessions it most definitely exists. In every haunting and possession case there is a mental health impact. But not every mental health case has a paranormal activity. My brother recently showed us a video of a dark shadows creep across his hallway by his bedroom. What makes this so relevant to him and his wife is they only checked the camera footage from that exact time because his wife said she felt some presence by her door and when she tried to look up to see it she saw a dark figure but couldn't figure out if it was one of her kids or not.so of course she checked the footage and discovered the anamoly. That story accompanied with the video makes this story very compelling. Now to add to this the mental health connection is my brother has been having very severe anxiety and depression seemingly based on stress about work and he has been waking up at 3am and even has had bouts of no sleep. I'm actually really concerned about his not addressing his mental health out than just wanting to take a medication. He says he is too busy to seek any therapy. This culture really has it back asswards. We are discouraged to put our well-being first.

Like you, I have an analytical background (chemistry), yet I've had unexplainable experiences. Mainly one happened after my mother's passing. I would hear footsteps walk to each of my kids' rooms and then to beside my bed (yet visibly no one seemed to be there), and I just knew it was my mom checking on us and letting me know she was still around. In the same time period, I woke up in the middle of the night to see a ball of light float from the foot of the bed upward and diagonally into the closet, where I had been hearing clothes hangers lightly knocking against each other unexplainably because there were no vents for air current in there. Wisdom is knowing how much we don't know.

I had an interesting experience many years back. It was day time we were in his living room. I was sitting on his sofa he was sitting to my right on a chair angled to the side of the sofa. We were just passing conversation and I noticed something strange. I saw a a ghosted image of that appeared to be a man wearing a bowler style shaped hat and mustache like turn of century feel look to him. I only saw this for maybe an instant and as I made eye contact with it it literally vanished sort of like it evaporated away to totally invisible air. It was EXTREMELY STRANGE as one could imaging. I sat there IN disbelief as to what I witnessed and my friend had his head back eyes closed sort of relaxed during or conversation. He looks over at me and saw I was a bit stunned and he said "what is the matter with you?" I said I saw something in the left corner of the room near front wall. He calmly said the guy with the hat. I said, yeah! I then said you just saw that as well? Like I said earlier his head was back and eyes closed in relaxed position while we were talking. Anyway, he said no I did not see it at that moment but said he had on a few occasions before. I then asked was it anywhere else in the house he said no just that area where I saw him. Now two things went through my mind. One, I know I saw this apparition and two, he must have seen it before as he described exactly what in fact saw. I can only guess as to what this was in all but as near as I can tell, It does fit the description of seeing a ghost. One last thing. My friend Bruce was a good friend since 1987 this incident happened in 1995 ish and he was about 17 years older than me. He has since passed on sadly. At this time after I asked him if he saw this apparition anywhere else in the house he said no just in that general area he then said I make conversation with that entity over the few times he has seen in in the span of the decade he lived there but it would just vanish. Not that it matters or it might, the house would easily have gone back to the time period of this gentleman apparition based in the small visual of his appearance hat etc. Life is strange and I guess that I was very fortunate to witness a very rare occurrence in nature.

Hello, Doctor. I loved your video and I wanted to congratulate you for your open mind. Did you further research this topic? Have you ever been interested in connecting your knowledge of psychiatry and human mind with trying to determine the possibility of an existence of a human soul? Could you share some of your thoughts on that? And, in case you know it, could you recommend some literature on a similar subject, that has a scientific approach? (most books seem to be rather "spiritual" than scientific and it seems to me like they often misuse some scientific terms when they start to talk about the scientific foundations of their claims) Thank you and have a great day.
