I'm a regular 6-string guitar player and always took bass for granted until I started adding my own bass parts into home recording mix tracks. I quickly learned that the bass has the ability to change the feel and mood of any rhythm and melody part simply by alternating the bass lines and notes that are being ridden on underneath the rest of the tracks. It's changed my outlook of the instrument and I'm begrudgingly starting to admit that it's the most important part in any mix, which is quite humbling being a dedicated 6-string player.

Steve Nejezchleba Swamp Song is genius, but as a bassist the kne that to this day is the most impressive to me is the 10,000 Days licks that are so fast that Justin has to finger pick instead of using his trademark pick style. As far as iconic goes, it's definitely between Schism and Sober though just cause those are their most radio-played songs

I guess "amazing" is in the ear of the beholder, but any Top Basslines List without at least one entry from ZZ Top doesn't pass muster with me. It's the lead-over-bass that makes ZZ Top's intro riffs so special, but the basslines to La Grange, Rush, and Legs, to name only a few, deserve recognition of their own.

Ricardo Santos call me crazy but I wouldn't say Rush are known for bass riffs. It's more their guitar riffs. Geddy was amazing for keeping the rhythm with his bass lines. If it was guitar riffs then I would agree with you
