My father chose to close his eyes to the fact that his wife hated me, which still hurts me, but now that I chose to be closer to the Creator l focus on being grateful for what my father did for me, those lectures have become the best part of my days, thanks

I know how hard it is to let go of my hate toward my own father. God bless you and may he honor you exceedingly as you have honored him throughout your trial.

Honoring the parents is one of the 10 Commandments. And the one that many blessings come from obeying.

Thank you dear Rabbi...your lecture is very important and very inspiring for all ages....it connects us to our realities as children and as parents furtheremore it brings us to the most important connection...... to God.....our Father..our Parent.........this lecture is also an eye opening to some particularities of relationchips between parents and child which has somehow enslaved them both because of lack of knowledge of the Laws of the Torah.....lectures like this delivers some people from wrong notions of applying this Commandment....again...thank you dear Rabbi for all your efforts.....more blessings...

Rabbi Chanina ben gamliel says that the 10 commandments were split between 2 tablets but that's not what the sages before him said. They said the entire ten commandments were written on both tablets front and back.

Thank you very much for this lesson! In the first case the father asked for forgiveness in his final weakness, in the second case the mother continues to make the adult child suffer so much that it could not even have any energy to potentially grow spiritually. So cutting the contact is just life saving. And the "honour your parents" thing can be a very retraumatizing if it is not explained well, because telling abuse victims to have to forgive who even still threats them bad, puts them on the level of aggressors "you are bad because you don't forgive them", and that retraumatizes them a lot. It is better to tell them to cut the contact without any explanations and simply think ok, sadly it is as it is. It is extremely rare that an abuser parent will stop that behaviour, and if, there can still be no obligation for the victim to try that out every minute in a desperate hope. The abuser has to really admit the thing and to show he or she had changed. Even the wise Josef tested his brothers hard before he could forgive them.
