Another of Drake's brilliant compositions; his originality as a songwriter overcome by the hell of his depression. His brief life and artistic contributions leave most of us completely silent.

I remember putting pink moon on to fall asleep to so many fucked up lonely nights, this album is pure raw Drake uncut. The emotion in this record is phenomenal along with Drakes flawless finger picking. Listen to this album, enjoy.

Jeesus I love Nick Drake. I just began listening to him within the last year. "3 Hours" became an instant favorite and if i put on the album "5 Leaves Left" i can get wrapped in a cocoon right away -feels like being drunk.

A sweet, kind & very devotional Gemini. His talent rose far higher than anyone knew, it isn’t surprising he wasn’t long for this world. Bless his passing & give praise & thanks to the body of work he gave us as covenant..

I just discovered Nick today...and find out he was another victim of the disease of depression. What a poet and thank-you for posting the background of this song and Chris Healy's site. So sad. I know what I am going to be doing for the next couple of hours...

Nice, yeah I remember when I first discovered Nick Drake as well. You might want to also check out Elliott Smith. He was also a brilliant song writer and From a Basement on the Hill is an amazing lyrical masterpiece that has helped me with my depression. Songs like "King's Crossing," "Last Hour," and "Memory Lane" are amazing.

It's unbelievable how the initial chord progression is exactly like Radiohead's Subterranean Homesick Alien. I can't possibly imagine that Thom Yorke, fellow Englishman does not know who Nick Drake was. It makes me appreciate Nick Drake even more. Even Horn sounds like it influenced Hunting Bears on the Amnesiac album.

Lifting the mask from a local clown, feeling down like him Seeing the light in a station bar and traveling far in sin Sailing downstairs to the northern line, watching the shine of his shoes Hearing the trials of the people there, who's to care if they lose? Take a look, you may see me on the ground For I am the parasite of this town Dancing a jig in a church with chimes, a sign of the times today Hearing no bell from a steeple tall, people all in dismay Falling so far on a silver spoon, making the moon for fun Changing a robe for a size too small, people all get hung Take a look, you might see me coming through For I am the parasite who travels two-by-two I'm lifting the mask from a local clown, feeling down like him And I'm seeing the light in a station bar and traveling far in sin And I'm sailing downstairs to the northern line, watching the shine of his shoes And hearing the trials of the people there, who's to care if they lose? Take a look, you might see me on the ground For I am the parasite of this town Take a look, you may see me in the dirt For I am the parasite who hangs from your skirt

Funny I was just being my depressed sorta self on a musical journey and found this post and here people discussing feelings (go figure) Just thought I would try to drop a supportive line in and say rest assured you are not alone William or anyone else for that matter. I can relate a million percent to not being able to talk to anyone like the doctor. Ohh I tried meekly back a few years ago and of course whatever embarassement I felt or ego or whatever caused me to underplay it and I got sent off with some mild anti depressant that didnt really do much. Since then I have been absolutely lying to the doctor when i get the "so how are you doing?' question. In fact my attitude and thoughts when I am depressed I dont want to share half the time because they are just so freaking depressing that I feel guilty even saying them. In fact I just erased the next paragraph because I read it and didnt want anyone here to be submitted to it etc.. Arrgghhh Ohh well thank god I have my guitar and music I swear some times its the only thing

"If by now, you are aware of animals in captivity & their behavior in such an environment, you would have noticed them walking up - & down in repetition. Some even bang their heads against the walls. This is called Psychosis. Without Drugs or Alcohol. Reality has destroyed them. Make no mistake; we exhibit the same symptoms. The only difference is the stretch of path to our offices, factories, & shops, & the fact that we bury our heads in sand." - Robert A W Porter

Jerry Sanders: "And one other thing - you can not be too nice as far as I am concerned. Anyone who thinks you are too nice just isn't nice enough. Just imagine what the world would be like if everyone were too nice if that was possible. If everyone always tried to be kind to one another and apologized and made up for wrongdoings when they/we inevitably do something hurtful accidentally or in a moment of anger or pain, if we were all willing to help others who are having difficulties in their lives, we could have a wonderful world and I think I would be very happy in that world provided we also treat other animal species with kindness and respect and switch to a vegan diet." - There's no such thing as "being too nice". There's always more good to be done and people can always be better. Being dumb is a completely different thing, but many people tend to confuse these ideas. You are never dumb by being nice. That's my opinion, based on what a good friend of mine told me. I like your comments, you are a very intelligent person.

Yeah I agree with you. "Parasite" is essentially a one chord structured song that goes from D#7 to D#6 to D# add b13, and then D#. Kind of hard to accuse Radiohead of taking this song when the progression has been around for a long time and if anything their song is homeage to Nick Drake. Kind of like how Neil Young's "Blue Ambulance" is homeage to Bert Jansch's "Needle of Death."

Here in Australia, there is an ad for the band, the Vaccines, for this clip although these can change. I take it where you are there are political ads? If so I agree with you. I dislike ads, particularly where they spoil good songs. I just wish they were less intrusive.

Babies (humans) in as of themselves are parasitic. Considering the nine month gestation period, the feeding, and changing of the diapers/nappies everyone pretty much starts out life as a parasite. Sorry this mucisian was ahead of his time and took his alienation too much to heart. Some people are not so much into making money as others.
