It's hard not to be overwhelmed by the incredible beauty of life. @son_60han2 жыл бұрын
Love how you explain each of the organism in there
@solar0wind2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if some species in your ecospheres decline because of inbreeding depression. In small populations after a bottleneck event (in this case caused by you taking just a small sample of the main population) there's not much genetic variation, and random genetic drift usually destroys even more genetic variation. If there aren't any new non-harmful mutations, almost all of the gene variants will die out after some time, and then it depends on whether the remaining alleles are harmful or beneficial.
@firebolt1002 жыл бұрын
@Haseeb 2 That's a good point, but I'm guessing the benefit of large amounts of offspring would be nulled if the new generation is preyed upon too much. The arrival of any genetic diversity is only viable if the offspring live love enough to reproduce those genes.
@Intervaloverdose2 жыл бұрын
@@firebolt100 It may be a large number of offspring but it still be lower in diversity.
@samuelargyropoulos1249 Жыл бұрын
@Haseeb 2 But those generations only contain the genes of the few organisms they descend from, and I'm not sure if genetic diversity can increase in such a small environment.

I grew up in a village and adopted two amphipods by carrying them in a pool of water in my hands as a child, and carrying them home. I put them in my makeshift ‘pond’ that I was building. Unfortunately they were the only two living things in it yet and I’d filled it with tap water 🤦🏻♀️ I came back the next day and was horrified to find they’d simultaneously eaten eachother.. both had matching chunks out their bellies. Well at least now as an adult I’m going to make an ecosphere and watch my amphipods thrive 🥺

An update ! Yeah ! You motivated me to make my very own ecosphere, but I put too much ground (like half the recipient was ground and rocks) and also got a very big worm inside... like finger big. I had to start over yesterday but the new one is looking good, although I have not seen any worm or amphipod like I quickly saw on the first try. I got snails though, possibly 2 species if I'm not mistaking, so that's good. They'll keep the glass clean enough for me to see inside :)
