Parasite eve 2 was creepy like hell. Old empty dessert town full of zombie mutated like monsters that can mimick as human. And Aya damn shes equal to jill valentine from resident evil or even hotter. With OP powers too that makes a lot of since as evolution type she is. She should be remake and graphically improve and this franchise will boom like a exploding star. If the author of Parasite Eve didn’t strip away the rights from Square Enix I guarantee you this game series would still be up and running today. I also think this story would have been much better. There is still hope as Square renewed their license in Parasite Eve so it’s clear they are going to do something with the title. There will most likely be a remake or remaster of these games . They do own the characters Aya, Eve and Kyle which is why they did this spin off and why the story doesn’t relate to the first two games. The reason why the author of Parasite Eve stripped the rights away was because he disliked the story and direction of Parasite Eve 2. PE2 is my favorite game of all time and I hope they continue this series because it’s a diamond in the rough.

PE2 is a shadow of PE1, fun game I play still 20 years after the fact, but they stripped down the mechanics in favor of trying to emulate Resident Evil. With each entry after PE1, the series moved away from the writer's science based horror which is why I could see him backing out. I still love the movie though, a weird time capsule of Japanese cinema.

The author took the rights to use characters from the novel and the name Parasite Eve from Square Enix which is why The 3rd Birthday isn’t called Parasite Eve 3 and the reason that Square Enix are still allowed to use characters like Aya is because she’s an original character made by them as she doesn’t come from the book.

Part of the issue is they didn't own the rights to Parasite Eve as a franchise. The original creator / author did. You can see they're soooooo trying to make something new by getting rid of all the characters and mention of mitochondria. It went as well as can be expected

I have a love-hate relationship with this game. :/ Love the music. Love the graphics. Love the push for a new direction, including the Overdrive mechanic. Love that Aya and Kyle became an official thing. But everything else drops the ball. u_u 3rd Birthday is all style but little substance. It possesses the same pretentious time-travel convoluted nonsense the likes of Kingdom Hearts enjoys flaunting. Hell, instead of Heartless and Nobodies, you got the Twisted and High Ones. And instead of Ansem giving giant annoying speeches, you got Hyde. e_o I could forgive recycled concepts, but the worst offense this game commits is how poorly it executes its story and downright BUTCHERS some of its characters. As a result, the game feels lifeless and you're given little reason to care for the majority of the characters. New characters are introduced so abstractly that unless you play the game again and read all the files, you're more confused than sad when you first see them and they die. It's even worst when, like Final Fantasy 13, the game expects you to spend hours READING through files and backlogs instead of - I dunno - PLAYING the damn game and understanding these characters for ourselves. It's the sloppiest way of getting gamers to know (and CARE) about them and the story. Kyle's episode was the exception, but only because PE fans EXPERIENCED the history of his character in PE2 and knew what his demise meant for 'Aya'. Speaking of ESTABLISHED characters... OMFG, WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO MAEDA??? It's one thing to have a character change based on circumstance and experience. It's a whole other matter when you butcher the CORE of that character. This was the same criticism Last Jedi faced with Luke Skywalker. 3rd Birthday rightfully gets heat from the fanbase because it turned an enduring, sensible scientist into an eerie, Aya-obsessed pervert/creep. Honestly, Maeda is no different than Dr. Klamp at this point. The emails you read from him are creepy to the point of being sadistic, especially when he sees Aya as nothing more than a sexy specimen. I can ramble on and on. People are free to love this game as much as they want. But please don't claim that those who dislike the game 'don't get it' - we do. We just don't care since the game gives us little reason to. We got all this cool shit happening, but there's little substance behind it. It's worth mentioning this game's 'story' was based on simply a Kill-Bill inspired teaser. It showed Aya wearing a wedding dress and shooting and a ring with blood - it sounded and looked 'cool'. Problem was, there was no story behind it. Tetsuya Nomura is NOTORIOUS for coming up with shit that is cool for the sake of being cool - there's no substance behind it. The development team of 3rd Birthday had to scramble to come up with something and it really shows. :P I think that's what really pisses me off. Third Birthday had so much potential! There are many things it does right. But its poor story and character execution belittles those triumphant moments. I also hate Nomura's "storytelling" methods. Rather than come up with a solid premise with solid characters first, he thinks only of those small, random bad-ass moments before jumping ship and leaving it to the development team to come up with a plot around those bad-ass moments. A lot of SquareEnix games suffer from this and why I hope, if PE ever returns, they get back to the basics.

Like first turning Aya into a sexy whimpering moe anime girl, but you find out it is Eve. That doesn't make it ANY better, cuz if you think about it, they are sexualizing EVE A CHILD at that point. I agree with the Maeda and log stuff as well. Gameplay is very engaging tho and music is 👌

Maybe I've watched too much anime but I love this game. You guy's just don't get it. The overdive system is an evolution of mitochondria genetic reprogramming activated by Eve's fight or flight response. In the other games Aya evolved psychic abilities and this system is the ultimate evolution of psychic abilities which is the ability to reprogram reality. Not just genetic memory but the memories of the universe. The previous ability to create and reprogram life became corrupted through the separation of soul and memory. The twisted without memory became unintelligent beasts of raw broken emotions. While the high ones without soul became beings of pure cold calculating intelligence without emotion.

The Twisted are also from the future "eating" away the past. The High Ones had emotions. Take Kyle and Gabriel for example. Kyle still loved Aya and Gabriel was terrified of what was happening to her and around her. They lacked the memories of how they became the High Ones but they still had emotions. I enjoyed the game mainly for the gameplay and the music. The story did have potential as a stand alone but there's so many plot holes.

No YOU just dont get it. Eve was NEVER Aya Brea's little sister. Maeda was never a perverted a-hole. And Aya Brea was a hard core b*tch tough as sh*t and not some whimpering host to a little girl living inside of her being her. Its a load of bullsh*t and it ruined these characters and this epic story of a badass cop who defeated an evolutionary monstrosity. The first game was THE BEST hands down because of all of the mitochondrial science talk and thats what made it deep, dark, and interesting. Its not being "caught up in nostalgia" its called sticking to the original stories TRUE narrative and meaning and that is what they entirely screwed up here. Eve was the ENEMY. Not someones little sister trying to save her big sis from being killed and dying. MAYA was Aya's little sister and she was the one that originally had the mitochondrial power which got transferred into Aya when she died and her right eye cornea was transplanted into Aya. Its also what caused the Melissa character to become the evil Eve because the mad scientist Dr transferred not only Maya's cornea to Aya but also Maya's liver into Melissa. They have FORGOTTEN their own lore and story that started all of this. They should have stuck to it instead of messing it up with this train wreck.

There are a few games I bothered to play more than once... This one, I replayed the most. I played it on every difficulty and twice on normal and hard. I only figured out how to activate the ability on my third playthrough. Which is kinda funny lol. I loved the story and I was talking about the game for ages lol I made all my friends into it even though they couldn't and wouldn't play it, but they were on board. Gave everyone custom made third birthday themed notebooks. Also, I really wanted to get married after this game? Which is weird seeing as what happens, haha. I should replay it. Someday. Gave my psp to my boyfriend as he gave me ps1. I could try to get my hands on Parasite Eve so that I can see why this game killed the franchise, though.

The fact that they didnt go ahead with the hammer down protocol is surprising especially since alot of national guards men and women and police personnel were lost throughout the game and containment obviously failed that also goes for mechanized units like tanks and helicopters just me tho, I think they should have stuck with the whole mitochondrial system and mutations ect with one person who was the root cause of said outbreak it would seem like 3 as I refer to the monsters and babbel are probably not the products of mutations but rather something else entirely I'm actually surprised they didnt throw aliens in there but for the most part the 3rd birthday still wasnt technically a bad game, no mans skies, and left alive are probably up runners for that title still a shame we havent seen a 4th game even tho they said if the 3rd birthday did well they would

I'm not the biggest fan of Parasite Eve, much prefer Resident Evil if anything, but good God this has almost no resemblance to the previous games. It feels more like a typical Square Enix game, in all the worst ways. Far too much pretentious angelic symbolism, monster designs that are boring and unrelatable, visuals with way too much goddamn exposure and lens flare, and of course the mountain of fluff and drawn out story cutscenes. I started skipping along to try to find something interesting in this video and got halfway through before giving up. I assumed walking in that this was probably the franchise killer based on release dates and general community interest, and I can totally see why, this played out like that scrapped DOOM 4 game likely would've if nobody course corrected.
