When I had a parasitic queen I did the exact same method as you but I first introduced only one worker to the queen before I did the rest of the workers and the brood, that seemed to make the process go a lot quicker as the worker was killed and she absorbed the pheromones and then they accepted the queen faster, in the end it was successful and now currently that colony has over 500 workers

That sounds very smart indeed and much easier aswel.

I caught some parasitic lasius this year too, but I'm not really confident with my skills as an ant keeper and I don't know where any lasius nests are so I released them. Good luck with yours!

That’s not a good way to do it. You should Introduce one worker and wait until she gets accepted or killed, then wait about 30mins and add about 5 more workers one at a time slowly and then feed them to encourage trophallaxis which masks some of the queen’s main sent glands. Then slowly add the rest of the workers and then the brood
@EstheticAnts
@EstheticAnts 3 жыл бұрын
It worked tho. In the wild the colonies are much bigger

Doing Parasitic Lasius Speices is far more difficult in the Americas(or at least the part I live in) since Lasius is less common and nest mostly by side walk where you can’t dig them up. I tried to do Formica and the ants got along but the queen later died a few months later so idk lol

When I was new to antkeeping I caught a Lasius Umbratus queen, but I thought it was componotus and just put it in a test tube. Since the parasitic queen didn't infiltrate any colony and didn't get any food she didn't lay eggs and died 😢
