Hi Doug. Very useful tool you are showing in this video. I will check this out and thank you for the codes you add. Your tips for using this tool is spot on. If memory serves I used an old school amp meter to see which winding if any were drawing excess amps in three phase electric motors,has sometime the ohms scale will not show a bad winding. At least with the antique motors I tested back in the day Lol. All my best. Bobby

Hi I have a sc420 fieldpiece can I use it to find my problem with my car? I have a Cadillac cts vsport and replaced battery 3weeks ago and now my car won’t start. It’s reading 11.4 volts it’s being replaced under warranty. I hope I just got a bad battery. I don’t know if I have a draw coming from my car. I’ve had it for two years and now this problem comes up.

Why only positive wire to be put in the clamp, as u said? I think in case of DC,it shouldn't matter positive or negative. Coz current flows equally.

Was hoping to see this tool used to clamp both neutral and hot lines to look for an imbalance caused by leakage current. This video only shows it being used as a current measurement clamp capable of mA resolution.

That's true, a higher current reading on the hot wire, and lower on the neutral, would indicate a leak between the hot wire and ground.

what is the unit that you are using? it is not the one that you have linked to this video because I bought one and the clamp hole is only 7mm in diameter. not big enought to fit over the battery cable.

That's weird. My opening does look larger than what is shown on the box in the video.....but mine does say UT258A. When you open the clamp, are the plastic walls of the hole wider before the iron core? Or is the iron core very close to the plastic?

Unreal. I just looked online and all of them show a smaller opening, meanwhile mine has a wider opening with the same exact model #. I would call up and ask. Too bad the plastic wall wasn't thicker, you could have drilled out the hole to make it larger to accommodate a larger diameter wire. uni-trend.com/contact.html

if a ac clamp meter were used on DC. what would the difference in the reading?

You cannot measure DC using an AC meter.
