Great video Mr Gillespie. One of the best for using a shunt. I noticed at around 30:00, when you touch the door handle with key in pocket, the video is a mirror image on the monitor and the laptop screen. But, then it's no longer mirror image after you turn the laptop around, sit down, and the laptop is the background.

If I did, I could easily first confirm if and when the drain occurs, and then when a drain was occurring prove exactly what was causing it.

John.. wow.. VERY comprehensive test. Thanks for all the hard work on this. But.. was this a test to show how the low voltage alarm was not caused by parasitic drain or a sales demo for your scope?

First I don't sell tools, so you can take that out of the equation. I teach continuing educational classes for professional technicians. The discussion in the CX-30 forum at the time was about the low voltage warning that owners were experiencing after leaving the car in accessory mode as well as possible parasitic drain problems. All I did with this demonstration is show just what a technician has to consider and then prove when attempting to analyze the problem (if it existed) and then work towards a diagnosis. There were, and still are a lot of theories (guesses) about what might be going on. What you see in the video is all normal vehicle behavior and it took more than an hour to document. If I was actually chasing a real problem on someone's car, it would easily take this much time to get the car to act up and then the real diagnostic steps could be taken.
