Sad thing is, it can’t ever be truly destroyed no matter what, it is a Goddess-made entity that comes back once every 7 years, beckons and selects a new Skullgirl. At this point, it’s virtually impossible for any girl or woman to make a wish on the Skull Heart and _not_ become a Skullgirl in the process, because in some recesses in our hearts, we’re all selfish one way or another. Wishes are selfish desires, as confirmed by the creators. It’s a lose-lose situation. At least Soul Edge can be physically destroyed and/or sealed away, the Skull Heart *_can’t._* And that’s why the Skullgirls main plot is sad, rivaling BlazBlue’s bleak plot (up until Central Fiction).

I'd love to see a sequel to this but...I doubt we will...which is really sad as GOOD 2D fighting games are kinda rare as only certain companies like ArcSys and various Indi devs make them nowadays..everything is either full 3D or 2.5D. Sure it takes more time to do the animations but look at how absolutely BEAUTIFUL this game turned out in the end..there is story and lore here that will most likely never be furthered.

In order for the "true story mode" to be made Marie, Umbrella and Black Dahlia needs to be playable.... and to some extent, Annie the girl of the Stars too. Luckily we have Eliza who has by far the most "main story spoilery" of all Story Mode.

I mean.... when you consider the amount of time it took to add the planned SG characters throughout development(let's not forget the cost it would likely run, on top of balancing), it's not so easy to ask for DLC characters in SG at this point. Getting SonicFox as a background element is amazingly easier by comparison, less coding, animating, and everything.

Hey, I'm a huge Skullgirls fan and your channel came up in my recs! Great to see someone else showing this game some love! So, few quick, spoiler-free things about story mode: 1. The Skull Heart grants wishes to young women, but if they aren't completely pure of heart (and who is?) they become an undead-controlling monster: the Skullgirl. 2. The original 8 characters have more limited story modes, but the newer ones (Squigly, Big Band, Beowulf, Eliza, and Robo Fortune) have more elaborate ones. Fukua's is... the odd one out.

Okay, Koe. I'm going to give you the overarching lore of Skullgirls. Probably buried, but this is a long one. In the Skullgirls universe, there are three goddesses. They created and sent the Skull Heart to Earth in order to see it destroyed. We don't know the reason for why this is. The Skull Heart works like a fucked up genie where you can make a wish to it, but it corrupts your heart if your wish is selfish (which always happens, since a selfless wish is impossible). The Skull Heart transforms the woman who made the wish into the Skullgirl, warping their mind into a one track killing machine, bent on ending mankind. If destroyed, it will regenerate in 7 years to make a new Skullgirl. Within the timeline within the game that we are shown, Squigly's mother was the First Skullgirl. Her wish was to bring her family back to life after the Medici's lit up her birthday party. This is partially why Squigly is still alive. Seven years later it was Parasoul's mother, who wished that the wat between the three kingdoms would end. Naturally, she turned into a Skullgirl and eviscerated all three before her husband sacrificed himself to take her out. Parasoul is an orphan. 7 years after that and we have Marie, who was a war-orphan turned child slave that wished on the heart for revenge against the people that made her life the way it was. She's comparatively chill compared to other SGs, fighting it's influence until her own goals are completed, but she can only hold out for so long...

You can go straight for the Nightmare difficulty, it's still very doable. Marie just gets a little bit more spammy, but you always get the audio cues.
