Most exhilarating moment of my entire life - the first time I jumped out of an airplane. I was scared of heights. I was shaking with fear the moment we stood up to get in the door. I didn't say a word. I just let the guy push us out. My fear made the experience like facing death and I was victorious. I defeated my fear in that moment and experienced a rush of adrenaline and felt like a god for a moment.

I jumped C-141Bs, C-130Hs, C-17As, Twin Otters, UH-60s, CH-47Ds, and some others. C-17A is the most comfortable, spacious platform to jump by far. Twin Otters were fun though since we were a small group out doing our own thing without all the insanity of 82nd mass attack, pre-jump, etc.

It's very fun! i agree you've got to have some balls to use these parachutes, can't really control them at all (from what i've heard) and if you land incorrectly you can easily break a leg. but the commercial grade parachutes are extremely fun and not dangerous. definitely recommend.

ghostwave 525 Airborne here, we use these shitty parachutes for whatever reason the army says, can’t control them one bit, maybe move 20 ft within 2 minutes when you’re only in the air for 1, shit hurts went you hit the ground and we had at least 3 people break their legs during my airborne class

This is some great footage. I could feel the sensations as if it was yesterday with the jumper first-person perspective going out the door, falling into the wind stream as the static line unravels off the back of your chute pack and things get quiet once you have a canopy. I don't miss it though. "Here comes the ground, here comes the ground.....BIFFF!" This guy had a pretty soft landing. It was pretty rare for us to jump in the day unless it was just a proficiency pay jump. Most of my jumps were night, with combat equipment, 800ft AGL.

@@hawkeye6038 I had read that static line jumps were pretty low, but just figured maybe the authors or official Army people might not know what they were talking about, since I grew up flying from a very early age. Nope, they were right. When you look out the door of a -130 or C-17 even at night, you're kinda looking across the treetops more than down at them. You can clearly see the drop zone and details on the ground if there is any illumination. Most of my jumps were at Camp Mackall, JRTC in LA, and Fort Bragg, with Sicily DZ being the most common. It's a huge DZ. Once you hit the ground, police up your chute and air items, and look up, you get to see follow-on chalks do their mass attack exits as well from a very close position.

That is the static jump line as they jump out into the slipstream it pulls the chute open. For a large jump that is the most effective way to get a large number of troops out rapidly.
