That was the top off to my Birthday, yesterday. You are astounding! In all of my 76 years, I have never seen anyone play a piano with the depth of heart and soul in which you perform. To see what you have gone through to reach this level is amazing. You ARE the music. You don't just play the keyboards and pianos, you make love to them. Thank you Michael for taking us along on your journey to perfection. Hearing and seeing you play does a great service to all of the composers, past or present. This was totally worth watching, to know the man in front of those keyboards.

I played piano from the age of 10 to 15. Quit mainly because of high-school, depression, and problems at home. Didn't pick it back up because I was a poor college student. Spent most of my adulthood just trying to pay bills and couldn't even affod a keyboard. I'm 35 now and getting back into it. I can play Fur Elise in the original arrangement but it did take awhile to break into my own hands. It's amazing how stiff they become after a 20 year absence.

This video is very inspiring for me. I’m 17 and about the skill level you were around that age. I feel like I’m a bit “behind” because I haven’t taken piano seriously compared to those who have done RCM etc. but I see from your beautiful playing that even if I didn’t take it seriously, and have quit lessons twice, I can (with dedication) still improve to a level where I can play the pieces I’ve always hoped to play :) thank you and it’s amazing watching your piano journey!
@pardonmypiano2 жыл бұрын
You are so right!! I've stopped playing the piano twice in my life but now it is the biggest joy I have! Honestly, taking a step back helped. Learning the piano is always a challenging journey and never a perfect one, but it is PERFECT as is. I'm grateful for all the experiences I came across. It's very important to only play what you want to play. Being in school can be sometimes difficult especially when you must learn your repertoire for exams and stuff. But once you fully dedicate yourself to what you like, that's when real progress starts 🙂 always choose to be different and never follow other pianist's journeys. Greetings from Chicago friend!

Favorite excerpt from your journey that I must now listen to in its entirety: Debussy’s Sunken Cathedral! Can’t wait ‘til Kawai sends you a Shigeru SK-EX upon which your first recording after receipt must be a reprise of that piece! But you left out very important facts, my friend. The detail that you omitted (but must also share) Through how many of the 20k hours were you forced to endure either: a) out-of-tune pianos, b) bad recording acoustics, or c) BOTH? We are all forever grateful you no longer have to do that!! The production values of your recordings are finally commensurate with your talent!

omg... I almost can't stand it inside, hearing and seeing you, Michael! Yea, that sounds silly, I know 🤪 You're "just you", inside yourself, to your own self. But the view of you, from out HERE?? oh my gosh... you're beautiful!!! Even physically, on the outside, but that coupled with realizing your heart as well (from seeing many of your other posts and words and thoughts and comments... here as well as Facebook)... all reveals what an amazing human being... what an amazing guy you are!! 😊 Life is absolutely emmense. Unfathomably emmense! I'm sure you've no doubt pondered, through life, how music itself mirrors what is ACTually the depths of our hearts desires and realizations, through life. I STILL, after even all my own years, can't seem to grasp a "definition", any "conclusions" about the reality of this whole matter... it's as allusive as trying to put emotion into mere words... it CANT be done! I personally feel that the reason for that is because it's all actually based on what most people might think of and label as a "spiritual" matter. Our foundational underlying true nature is far, far beyond the mere physical nature of our existence. Your own heart is trying to express the depths of those truths, and I see that in your words, Michael! And it goes without even saying how much you express that in your... music!! I really do wish I knew you for real! I'd have to be very careful, though. Totally no offense, but I think my heart would be total mush for a while! 😆😊 lol. You're amazing, Michael! Yea, I'm just some total stranger to you (duuh 😜), but I still love you. We're all human, so we all already intrinsically share in much, when it comes to knowing how "hearts feel". There's a million paths of possible conversation in that regard! I'm thankful music helps us navigate down those paths! It's really all the same thing. We're here, we live, and then we each leave this place. What then?? Love. That's what. It's the utterly underlying, eternal foundation to EVERYTHING. (Another million paths of conversation there!). Ok.. I'll hush, and just enjoy your music for now 😊 My own life took a particular journey, with my own music... and watching you leads me to feel that my own path took some mistaken steps that led me to not be "as good" as I wish I were. But... at least I still get to be performing, out on the road and making a decent living doing it. I'm grateful! But dang it... I SHOULD have been practicing my Chopin WAY more through the years... instead of... Elton John! (no offense, Elton!! You know I love you!!!!! haha 😁). Blessings to you, Michael, and I hope life is being amazing for you!! 💞 ~Steve facebook.com/steve.farmer.311

How long did it take you to really look inside. It was part of your soul from a early age. Wanted to be a Architect and minor in music. Played a competition and teacher said you should change majors. Did you feel that you should change , also? Did you feel that , that is what you really wanted to do even before? Did your choice to be a Architect have to do with financial security and you had piano due to the love of playing. When practicing did you record yourself for self evaluation? And how many times would your instructor listen to you and coach you on playing while practicing to get a piece down. I feel some of us don't have the confidence to go on our own instincts and feel like we need someone close to help us to critic or give us their thoughts on what they hear. To help or give or allow ourselves to make choices in our playing .

When playing all the classical music from the innovators, do you think anyone can ever play it the way they did? I mean everyone has their own touch representation of the pieces. I'm sure some of the composers, not all would play them somewhat differently at times. Do you feel the same way. Each person can practice to have a precise attack on notes and passages doing it over and over to a point that they just have practiced and picked things apart just to get notes to sound just a certain way. Esp when going into the extremely light touch and to various degrees of sound and tones of even notes in a chord. Practice training has to be very difficult when trying to get to that place you hear and feel in your mind to transfer it all to playing. Hard time to sleep at times thinking of getting it exactly to your perfection . Which we know we never get it to where we really want it. As soon as we do and play it even if front of people we are our own worst critics. Maybe at times we need to have a few we can really trust to tell us it's at it's best. But we are always learning and improving. Still we go back and think maybe if I played it just alittle better here, and aliitle more here . A little more here a little less here yet we are doing these things. How much do we know to add or take away. I say it is all up to ourselves ,ears, our feeling our inner self .
