I was a young woman in the Air Force in the early 90s. A young man at work confided to me that he was gay. I think the pressure of hiding it was so great that he just needed to confide to someone. Even though, at the time, I thought it was wrong for gays to join when they knew it was forbidden, I never said a word to anyone about what he told me. He was a nice guy. I hope he's OK. PS: I also think it's wrong to tell others what someone has confided to you unless they are hurting other people.

I served with many great veterans that were gay or lesbian. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with discipline or morale even though that’s how it was portrayed. These folks shouldn’t need a pardon but have their military records corrected to reflect honorable service and VA benefits restored with back pay.

It’s a local city or county depending on the make up of the area. And you’re correct about the economy, people blame Biden but it’s actually not really his fault. Some is stuff that just happens, we actually have one of the best economies in the world right now. But humans often go based on perception and how much pain they feel, they don’t look for logic. They often think the grass is greener on the other side. Some of it from Covid, a lot of hits from Companies purposely raising their price because they found out they can’t, summers from the war, and some even seems to be left over inflation that should’ve happened under the last administration but he basically threatened/bullied the federal bank chair not to raise inflation rates which helped at the time but hurt later on. Of course some people will say if the last administration did it why can’t we do it now, but that’s kind of like not having the money to pay a bill so you say money that month, but you have to pay it next month or else you’re gonna have a late fee, and if you don’t pay it then you’re gonna be sued or your electricity is gonna get turned off. You can only hold things so long. And what’s good about Biden and also bad is he’s not willing to go outside of The precedent what a president is supposed to do working within the system.

I am one of those veterans who was discharged Honorable/Honorable Character of Service in 1990 because I was gay. I tried to commit suicide because of everything they put me through. I later needed to get my clearance re-instated for a job I was doing ( I did not go to prison, luckily) but was told my discharge was changed to Less Than Honorable. Living with that all these years, has taken a huge toll BUT I am proud to have served in the Army. I can't wait to apply!!

I served in the USMC during "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." It was humiliating and terrifying, with the risk of going to the brig if caught. When my boyfriend died, I had to hide what was happening to me. I turned to drugs and alcohol to get through it, but luckily made friends who helped me. I don’t want their pardon; I want an apology.

In principle I think this is an idea whose time has come. But in the example in the video, it should be pointed out that the guy was not convicted of being gay. He was convicted of having gay sex. While we can't really help what we think or how our minds are hard wired, we can certainly control our actions. Self discipline is something that is highly valued in the military and illicit sex, whatever the reason for it to be regarded as illicit, is a lapse of self discipline. It has been a few years and he has paid the price for his lapse of judgement. He seems like an okay guy to me. I hope he gets his pardon, and a pardon is SPECIFICALLY for forgiving those who have committed a crime, but remember that he did commit a crime and it was not a crime of being who he was, but a crime of doing what he did. So, it's not a crime now. Good thing. Government has no business sticking its nose into the private lives (or private property-- you listening, anti-gun zealots?) and honestly our list of prohibited acts should be about 1/10 of what it is. So Biden is taking government's nose back out of people's sex lives. Good for him. Now if he will just take his nose and grasping fingers out of my gun safe, we will all be happier.

No...just no. If the straight soldiers received no consequences for engaging in consensual sex, neither should the gay ones. Can't have it both ways: the military needs to uphold the same standard for everyone. If the military truly wanted folks to avoid "illicit sex" they should simply require every soldier to be celibate and unmarried. I'm sure that would go over fantastic; i mean, it's worked so well for the Catholic priesthood, right? And it's really insulting for you to claim the guy had a "lapse of judgement" simply because of WHO he had sex with when straight folks would never be accused of a similar "lapse." Thank you, somewhat. But let me ask you a question, what if an ancient book or society or whatever told you that you had to be in a relationship with another man. That was the only right thing to do. How easy would it be for you to live your life and never pursue relationship with a woman? You get my point about people who are the opposite? Yeah, but that’s what all politicians do. And part of it makes sense, because the public does not have a long memory. So if you do something for him and then expect to campaign on that for years later, they feel like that’s too far back. It reminds me of my sister who literally has bipolar who believes you cannot blame someone or praise them for something they did a couple years ago, she feels like life has to be lived in the present. I often think she’s wacko because she has bipolar disease, but a lot of the public is not too terribly much better than her. And also, it’s also very possible he didn’t know anything about these people. I figured President Obama would’ve taken care of these issues when don’t ask don’t tell was repealed. The president looked at policy in foreign policy and big level issues, not people who were prosecuted based on something ridiculous 30 years ago.
