I understand. My Father has developed Dementia over the last (8) years. We didn't have a great relationship while I was growing up and it took years for us to even like each other. He was a good Father, but I wasn't a well behaved kid and was always in trouble, causing my parents grief. But he held it against me long into adulthood, even when I became a different person. Responsible, hard working, raising a family of my own. I find myself biting my tongue and telling myself his bad behavior is the disease. It's become even more difficult to deal with after the loss of my wife, and seeing how he doesn't even realize how fortunate he is, to still have my Mother taking care of his every need. I'm trying to keep it in the perspective that these are our last days together. I don't want to not love him based on our past and a disease he has no control over. Maybe a similar perspective can help you with your relationship with your Father. I know what you're going through.

My eldest sister was 15 years old when I was born. She got married when i was 2 and had a child when i was 3. My mom and my two eldest sisters were all pregnant at the same time when i was 7. I was 8 before any of them were born. So, i grew up with my nieces and nephews. My parents were usually the babysitters. My older sisters would just bring all the kids over for the week during the holiday or for a few weeks during the summer. There was really no difference between the ways that my younger sister and I was treated and the way our nieces and nephews were treated.
