Excellent advice. I never dealt with being recruited or scholarships until my daughter started talking about going to college to play softball. We talked to several schools but only got to talk to one coach and I answered the questions that he asked me directly and my daughter answered the majority because they were to her. It started off great because she had followed his team and congratulated him on this season and the past few seasons with the the teams statsfor those seasons. He was shocked and thanked her with a real big smile. She was nervous as we drove up and was asking me things to say and do. I said answer honestly and be yourself.

This is really good advice. My parents were also quiet during visits, but quite vocal at home. My mother was an old schoolteacher who did not want my academics to suffer. My father did the numbers. We worked through everything and I think we ended up at the right place.

The first task for the parent is to be aware of all deadlines. The second task is to screen the college for GPA, financial offers, type of program, etc., so the kids have plenty of choice. The third task is to register into the different apps to contact the college, like the NCAA or field level or else. There are financial aspect to this that only parents can decide and judge, with perhaps the coach. The fourth is to produce good videos of the kid. I saw many crappy ones, and videos will be what the coaches use the most to recruit. I am sure there are plenty of others but this is a good start I think.

baseball is a lil different than other sports.. or in my opinion it is. Draft wise, College recruiting wise, etc! Im dealing with a crazy "super dad" now and these kids are only 13, I feel sorry for the kids! Not the over bearing dad, hes only killing their chances of ever moving forward. But to your point, that guy is a gold mine anyway with all the press h creates, that's more for show and suits basketball just fine but would not work out in the baseball world

I wonder how much of what these parents do has to do with the fact that there kid was a star player in whatever small town he was in, and they got special treatment (Or, more likely, we just put up with) because the team needed that kid.

Should a parent become their kids agent? Or should the player make sure to hire outside of family?
