I worked with severe and profound for over 13 years in our school system as a one on one parapro....I started with my student when she was 11....she is now 28 I have been working with her through the NOW program through medicaid....see the communication board brought back some fun memories with her....I hope you get the waiver!

I recently came across your channel and have watched many of your videos. You are an absolutely lovely family and Freya is such a sweet girl. I'm really sorry that the medical system in the US is so bad. I have a muscle disease myself, am a single parent and unfortunately can no longer work. In Germany, health insurance covers all the costs of my illness and since I no longer have any income, I receive state support. I pray that there will be this support in the USA at some point. I have the same problem with my two kids who are with genetic and other health issues! The out-of-pocket cost is so high and we have not been able to afford the treatment that could have made their life better. Thank you for fighting for Freya and so many of us.

Good job on the speech. Hoping for you and your family they give more funding to the medicaid program. So many need this help--especially those with medically complex children. We have a special needs child and we fought long and hard for medicaid and finally got it. Freya is beautiful and I love your channel.

Interesting to hear your pov re: preschool gap. Imho, huge gaps exist in most groups of kids. No problem from my pov mixed grouping pre-school as long a disruptive/aggressive kids don't cause too much distraction and kids are challenged at their own levels at least part of the time.

I feel for you. If you have handicap, special needs in front of your name, you will be charged astronomical prices. I lost both legs when I was 45 due to a horrible trucking accident. It's so frustrating to get the items you need and can't. Hugs and prayers. Love your channel ❤️

Do you have Shriners groups there? They give lots of needed wheelchairs, and other appliances kids need and they pay for them though I’m not 100% sure if they pay all of it . I have a friend whose son was diagnosed as cereal palsy ( because they just grouped any developmental anomaly they couldn’t name under that back in his day) and Shriners provided him with specialized wheelchairs from when he was a little guy till he aged out. Mum and Dad had good jobs and insurance and a lot of things are covered in Canadian medical coverage , but not specialized wheelchairs. Might be worth looking into. 🙋🏼‍♀️

We live in NC and we have some great programs but the wait lists are horrible. My daughter Leia will be 18 yrs old in June. She has said about 50 words and never said them again. She is non verbal but she does say MAMA for everything. She does understand when you speak to her and she understands sign language but she does her own signing, her own THANG!!! I sure hope you get Medicaid. Your daughter is adorable. 😊😊

I hope you and other families get the funding they so need for their children. Legislators don't know/understand what families with special needs go through and what items they could really use but aren't affordable to the family. Perhaps things the child needs but insurance doesn't cover and parents can't afford to buy on their own due to the expense. Freya put a face for children with special needs and hopefully they'll remember her when they vote on the bill. Freya has the cutest smile and can charm anyone with it. 😁

I truly hope you get the help your family and Freya need. Your husband having to take a second job I was not aware of. This upsets me because that also takes time and support away from you and your other children. Freya deserves to be taken care of by the state and Medicaid too. We do such a poor job of helping our neediest. It is sad to me. What is that saying? The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. At a meeting for medicaid you were only given 1 minute to talk? I realize you are a parent and they might have done that to accommodate anyone with a disability that impairs speech and makes it a challenge for them to talk. BUT if that's not the case that's just wrong! There's many many people with disabilities who could never get there point accurately across in that short time and have every right to speak for themselves!

Under ADA they would be legally required to but sadly the issue that isn't considered and taken for granted it how singled out that makes a disabled feel plus the vibes of hate because it's not perceived as a need which in a situation of high emotion gets a lot of disabled people hated on by those who are not. All in all though such meeting either need to reduce the amount of people and set up multiple meetings or wake up and realize that disability and medical complexity takes longer to address compared to many other topics!

How precious ! Loved the hand prints. Have you heard of Wrights Law? Google it, these people have a lot of information on special education rights. You never know, it could help sometime. I used it to help the parents of the kids in Life Skills at the high school level. It’s a very informative site. I’ll be praying that they allow the waiver for Freya. It’s so unfair sometimes, the legislature can be indifferent to the needs of children who are born special. My nephew had Downs Syndrome and there were times when he could’ve been afforded more help. Your family is at a disadvantage because the numbers of CdLS is so low. Autism has more numbers; therefore, there are more people to campaign for need. There should be a grouping that includes all those who need. Good luck!
