Unfortunately there are some important things in early childhood that children need to learn and positive reinforcement is the only way to help them learn. Like potty training. It's using a type of Operant Conditioning to help the child transition to use the toilet over wearing nappies by using praise and encouragement while avoiding reinforcing negative unwanted behaviours like wetting themselves. It's exhausting to be a parent, but having managed to get a kid to 20 years old, happy and healthy is an enormously rewarding experience. But sometimes you have to get creative, crafty and cunning to get your child to perform certain behaviours before they are capable for having a reasoned conversation about it. My son didn't talk clearly, or at all before he was 7 years old. We couldn't have the type of communication between us that other kids his age did with their parents. But we learned to communicate via baby sign language before they were 18 months old. It really helped!

That's actually an evolutionary thing. They didn't need it to grow up and become parents (the biggest sucess, in the eyes of evolution, is to pass on your genes on the best way possible), so they see it as unnecessary, or even a threat. There is a video from Vsauce called "Juvenoia" about this. I suggest watching it, so you can understand why your mom blamed your cellphone for a stomach ache (she actually tried to do this with me :/)

If you're worried about the battery, it's designed to be safe and take a certain amount of heat because companies know we take our phones literally everywhere nowadays. It’s crazy that we have this notion of life being a ‘gift’. To kids life is where they’re thrown into a world of the unknown where they’re right at the bottom and totally reliant on someone who could already have a negative opinion of them before they’ve even met. A kids quality of life really is luck of the draw, you could be born with a trust fund and family that loves you or you could be born in poverty with no family at all 🙁

I love that Dom just casually mentions the cereal milk debate....
@urgarb97185 жыл бұрын
Ender Lollipop that’s a debate? It’s obviously cereal then milk like dom said

"Debate"? That would imply the other side has some merit. You pour however much cereal you want into a bowl. You then drench it in however much milk you want. If you do it another way, you're doing it wrong.

I mean I’m on the side of cereal than milk, but there are idiots in this world lol

Same, what if you put in too much cereal ? In the morning I’m too lazy to go back in the fridge for some more milk, just put in the milk first so you can control the cereal to milk proportion

That "arguing with yourself" thing was actually really interesting. I mean of course it's a bit of a hyperbole (I'm like 2 feet taller than my mum for example) but the core idea from a personality perspective is pretty accurate.

Yea, I agree. It put things in a different perspective for me--crazy I haven't realized before that I often make stubborn decisions just like my dad. Damn

Som Nom I agree. My sister is more like my parents so it’s ironic when they argue since they’re basically complaining about their own behaviors. When my parents yell at me, I’m usually just quiet or vague. If anything, I’ve grown up to be the opposite of my parents because I disliked the way they did things.

How parents think life is like. "StOp CrYiNg, MaTtHeW!" "I will no longer cry, although I just slammed my finger in the door of our automobile and it is likely broken."
