Parents of LGBTQ+ children share why they are proud

Pride celebrations have been popping up all over the country during the month of June-commemorating the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. In their own words, parents of LGBTQ+ kids and adults tell “CBS This Morning” about their own acceptance journeys and why they are proud of their children.

Not being against lgbtq or anything but i dont really understand how you can just tell someone their orientation. Sexual orientation and gender identity are not synonymous. Sexual orientation is your sexual preference. Gender identity is what identify as. Like caitlyn Jenner identifies as a trans woman, but still prefers women as sexual partners. I know confusing af. But I don’t think kids should be exposed to this until they come to the parent with questions.

Anyone that is a part of the lgbqt community should be furious about this kind of thing. Stuff like this sets the movement back significantly and turns alliances into enemies. It already has effected the community. Almost all female & lesbian festivals/events, bars, and theater has been cancelled or violently shut down. ..Look what it has done to women’s rights. Lesbian activists were the gate-keepers of women’s sex-based rights (no more lesbian community = all women lose their rights). People see gay parents and they think that we want to force surgeries on our kids because “anything gay is part of the trans agenda”. Gender-correction is the new gay. People are ripping the “love is love” stickers from their bumpers. Most straight people do not understand that gays do not support this. They think we are trying to dismantle anything safe and “family-friendly”. Its been done. It was a Trojan horse. Now what are ya”lol going to do about it. Definitely not much if we are afraid of being called transphobic for openly being gay (sex based attraction). Definitely can’t gain back women’s rights if we are all afraid to use the word “women” when we speak of females. LGB events need to start again. There will be pushback but if it doesn’t happen, the LGB will be erased because it is based on sex and if sex no longer exists, neither does LGB. ..or women’s sex-based rights. Yup.

You know...Homeschooling might be the best choice. Discrimination and Bullying against lgbtq+ students keeps increasing. Recently, in Oklahoma, a nonbinary highschool sophomore was beaten to death by a group of bullies and the school didn't even call an ambulance. They see it in Disney when a pretty princess kisses a handsome prince. They know that men like women, boys like girls and vice versa. And they know their parents are attracted to each other. But I'm sure you don't tell little kids what mommy and daddy do in bed together. Just apply that same logic to gay people. You don't even need to talk about sex. You don't even need to explicitly say people are gay or lesbian. Telling them something simple like *"some boys like boys and some girls like girls"* and leaving it as that isn't going to "poison" their minds. Don't explain the more graphic stuff until they reach the age where you and your child are ready to have "the talk". Also, kids do understand gender.
