QUESTION: So not only yourself but every other crew member counts down their days until the end of the contract. Is there an incentive to work until the end of the contract? What stops someone leaving early? When I toured with bands, there was usually an end of tour bonus if you had done the full tour. Wondered if this was the same thing with cruise ship contracts?

Hi Louise! Maybe check out Cruise with Ben & David's vlog - they recently did a cruise with their family and both their nephews are wheelchair bound. I know they had a few issues at ports but ship wise everything seemed fairly accessible.

Just make sure you reserve a wheelchair-accessible room ahead of time. If you book early and pay in full you can make sure you get one of the rooms. You don't want to request one and then wait to pay till the last minute that they give you because you don't want to end up like a guy who did this and is now pissed because he didn't get the room he requested because another cruiser also requested and paid sooner than he did. The sooner you pay the sooner your room number can be solidified. Work with a good travel agent who can ensure you get the right kind of room. Beyond that, the ship should be totally accessible for you. Oh, and make sure that your travel agent lets the ship know you are bringing a wheelchair on board ahead of your trip. They need to know, that one lady didn't tell them and they wouldn't let her board because they were not prepared for her to have her wheelchair. They will totally accommodate you, but you have to give them advanced notice that you need accommodations. Maybe that is why the guy didn't get a wheelchair-accessible room, but my feeling is that he didn't pay till the last minute and didn't have someone checking to make sure he would have that accommodation. There are only so many wheelchair-accessible rooms on the ships, so that is why this is so important. I think you would have a blast on the ship. Some of the ports may not be as accessible, but worst case the ships are a destination in and of themselves. Hope this helps you out!
