BBC Newsnight has uncovered evidence of parents removing their children from school to avoid them learning about LGBT relationship classes - soon to be part of the Department of Education’s curriculum. Subscribe to our channel here: goo.gl/31Q53F
From September 2020, it will be compulsory for schools to teach lessons about LGBT relationships, often called relationship classes.
Teachers -who have found themselves between government policy and angry parents - have received such severe letters and threats that they’re now being encouraged to pass them onto anti-terror agency, Prevent. Katie Razzall reports.
Emily Maitlis is joined by Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, Jess Phillips.

@@Katiepembroke So you think kids should be taught about, well pretty much everything? Should we teach kids about all kinds of medical conditions so that they don't think some people they see are "weird"? Also, discrimination will always exist. Learning about it will not stop it, just as it hasn't stopped racism. Kids are accepting of everyone already. That's why we have to teach them to stay away from strangers. They have a limited time in school to learn things that will help them in life, not to learn about a small part of society.

You are born with a sexuality. You are born with an orientation. As adults we are the ones who should teach children not to discriminante others and especially feel free to learn about themselves with no guilt. If you only learn about heterosexuality and do not feel it within you, you believe you are abnormal. That feeling attraction or love for someone who is the same gender is ugly or wrong. You begin to self loathe, to try to change yourself, you violate your own nature, your orientation, you force yourself into a sexuality just because someone told you that was how it's supposed to be. It can lead to teenagers and adults taking their own lives out of depression or feelings of not belonging. The pain of not feeling accepted or not accepting ourselves can be too much, even unbearable. Hiding topics and promoting discritimation at schools is NOT protecting children. It is repressing some of them and raising the rest of them to have prejudices and taboos over the topic of sexuality. Protecting children, for example, at schools, would be telling them that kissing Snow White or the Sleeping Beauty as They sleep is hugely problematic and should be considered violation of a vulnerable person without consent. Hungary should definitely think this over. Please watch this shortfilm: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZemi618lNCFd9E

Why is it that YOU people seem to think that your sexual orientation problems should be a priority over other kids who experiece depression and everything else because of other things? What is it that you people want, a pat on the back and praise for being gay? Snow White or the Sleeping Beauty, are you kidding me? In case you haven't noticed we don't live in a catroon world. What the schools should be teaching about is things like not taking candy from strangers or helping some stranger look for his lost puppy. You think that your sob stories are gonna get people to feel sorry for you, but all you're doing is getting people pissed off with your whiny BS. So when kids learn about a heterosexual couple it's okay, it's love. But when kids learn about homosexual couples it's not okay, because it's sexual(?). You know heterosexual people have a sexual life too right? But nobody wants to show that to kids. Now, the same with homosexual couples, show them the part where two people of the same gender can love each other, that it's good, and that'd be all. There is no need to teach them more for them to learn to respect.

Children are being indoctrinated to sexual issues as early as four years old. In my opinion, that is entirely too young; too young to even consider sex. At least wait until thirteen-fourteen. I didn't have my first sex ed. class until I was 12 years old in the 7th grade. Having it that late in life never caused me to question my sexuality or anyone else's sexuality. And no one in my generation was ever confused about which restroom to go to during recess. This, LGBTQ stuff is a bunch of "BS" that is merely an attempted dawn of a new era for the gay community. Gays want to make homosexuality a part of humanities social fiber as it was during the Greco Roman era. Gays are seeking the heterosexual communities approval to live the abnormal life that they've decided to embrace and blame God for.

So what if those religious beliefs entail the deprivation of someone's human rights, like that a disabled person can't attend school or women should not work. Should we suddenly compromise and do that just to satisfy that person's religious beliefs? The principle of democracy entails the sharing of rights with someone you might find personally repulsive, this does not mean people can use religion as an excuse to have rights and deprive someone else of their rights at the same time.

Kids are being invited to drag shows in 18+/21+ gay nightclubs, and they plaster a "family friendly" net label to avoid complete public outrage. Just teach kid's the core subjects; math, science, english, social studies, etc, You don't need to teach kids about sex and relationships, that is the job and priority of parents. @Awyatt In elementary school, my school had sexual education classes. Many students were left confused and curious. The amount of sexual harassment and sexually charged jokes severely increased. I faced lots of sexual harassment which frustrated me. A physical education teacher can't go from teaching PE to teaching kids about human anatomy and sex. It's the role of parents to provide sex education for their kids. Parents need to step up and have conversations with their kids. Kids are entitled to feel comfortable expressing their interests and concerns to their parents. It is not the role of educational institutions to teach students about sex.

The agenda to put an adult bedroom choice in front of children and ENCOURAGE it is not healthy. What you do with your adult genitals or girls underwear is your private business - not to be paraded to children. My oldest wanted to be a dinosaur when he was 3, should I have took him to a surgeon for permanent transition?? See the ex lgbqt community testimonials who escaped the suicidal end and found identity. Why only this community being taught in schools etc what about if they identify as a Goth and have no other Goth community to affirm them at every turn, "yes you are a Goth" "its ok, be proud to be a Goth" "affirm your whole identity to tell the world you are a Goth" "lets immediately get you pierced, grow your hair and dye it black" Let kids be kids, protect their eye & ear gates, give them wholesome choices a plug can only work with a male and a female part. These natural paths are for our protection ...so we don't break in the Mental Health Crisis Epidemic. ❤ in love to every one of you, for you are deeply loved 🙏

History as a subject field has had more arguments than most about the ethnic, cultural and political content delivered as a unified Nat Curric subject. History teachers compensate and add their own takes on delivering it; exams merely require a standard narrative agreed to the will to the English majority in the UK, kids are then exposed to a variety of teachers in the field and learn to notice opinion. It serves as a great subject for speaking, writing and debate (a democracy without a balanced history curriculum is not a democracy). In early Key Stages is it safely kept in a distant past, although problems arise when you teach about the 20th century wars, though the poor advice given to primary teachers on the NC history is to blame, not all primary teachers are historians with the dexterity to realise what implications arise from different contexts (my child came home at 8 years hating German's leaving me a very pastoral task in acceptance and progressive opinion, perhaps I should have protested at the school, but I just accepted his teachers were just primary teachers attempting to address a stupidly written government guideline). Why are children being taught 'society' anyway, who says what society is in the first instance and what if I don't agree? That as well as political and cultural stances are taught by parents and local environment in correlation to the world at large. The social science of societal studies is a joke a non extant entity, and a minefield of problems that truly do not help a child to succeed in the overall school objective - finding a job. Do they teach guardian, foster, residential carers, or aristocracy, the 99% or alcoholism, kleptomania, pedophilia, murder and drug abuse in families? Not the more extreme for sure, but at best these issues will arise in content taught - stories, bland unbiased kids stories, trusting that the longer path of learning will eventually produce a balanced empathic individual. Physical and social education is extremism included on behalf of modern Orwellian disasters. Schools never taught that it was wrong to be gay or trans gender. Adults learned about this area of society in society and the force of the fact that it is a real consideration over - reached the negativity of the playgrounds and workplaces. PSE, what a joke; just extend history to 16, teach kids how to evaluate opinions as individuals and they might just return decent politicians as adults. I am still learning about society and culture as a teacher, I endured religious schooling and graduated without prejudices in general, I deliver lessons in an unprejudiced way and include materials for discussion across the range of social states and ideals, with an equal delivery and accept all opinion should it be properly evidenced and supported. I should add that I do all of this in fecking China before an indocrinated mass of silent students knowing full well that government student spies are among my pupils. Don't make schools think-right camps, make them useful for keeping kids off the street, healthy, socialised in their locality and enthusiastic about learning about the world - job done. Otherwise you are giving the message to a child that their parent is wrong for holding a view or being a specific social group (i.e is the LBGT curricular offset by lessons on religious intolerance, totalitarian ideals, Marx or Merkel? Terrorist or freedom fighter, (think IS or suffragette whichever you prefer). These topics are for KS4. KS 1 - 3 must and will be fluffy, so the adults protesting have it very half arsed to think it's indoctrination. So, it can only be said that political correctness and idealism is again ruining the good will of school teachers. Leave teachers alone to do a very hard job, they are the experts - and defend any teacher who's opinion is within the law - above all question the law, and take your protests to your bloody MP. Teachers, themselves must be wise, non confrontational and open to debate.

So it makes no sense to bring biology into it, when they schools aren't going over that yet. You can have two men taking a parental role over a child. Which would make both of them dads. To father is a verb, two men can father at once, both can be the father. A Muslim is obliged to respect and tolerate those who are different. Virginia has an age-appropriate "family life" program that starts in grade school & continues through middle school. Every family is informed ahead of time what subjects will be covered--not just puberty, sex, & diversity but also drugs, bullying, & a number of other subjects. All parents have the choice to opt out, & another activity is already in place for these kids. Sounds like this school could really benefit from a common sense solution like this. As it's young children were talking about I think the parents have every right to opt out if they don't have the right to opt-out where is The freedom this isn't freedom if you're forced. It's not the schools charter to promote lifestyles under some misguided "acceptance" motive. I'm pro human rights. I'm not pro teaching children to be drag queens. If that's narrow minded so be it. I don't care what a person does in their private life, but under NO circumstances do they have the right to propagandize for their choices to other people's children against parents wishes. They don't need to be taught anything specific about LGBT. As long as they are just teaching the children to be tolerant and accepting of other people’s differences then I don't see an issue, the real problem comes when the teaching becomes preaching. My son is 20 and his generation don’t care if you are straight, gay, trans, to them it is just part of life. Many schools these days seem to intent on 'raising consciousness' of all the lifestyle options that are out there. But are the kids any happier? I'm sure that a vigorous re-focusing on the 'Three Rs' would set them up far better for the lives they have ahead of them. I'm all for schools teaching children about sex and relationships, whether they be heterosexual or same sex. But not at primary school age. This is nothing more than a liberal political agenda, and one that Mr Moffatt is no doubt personally invested in. The parents are absolute right to be outraged over this, regardless of their religious beliefs. Too young for this whatever faith. Just let them be kids before the world ruins them. The LGBT community have been trying to shove their lifestyle down ours, and our kids Muslims are obliged to respect and tolerate those who are different. throats for years. Their abnormal, and perverse lifestyle is one which I feel is based on a chemical imbalance in the body and/or brain. I'm glad to see another more aggressive group is proving louder. Any human being with even the slightest sense of self-preservation should be against it. I understand that LBGT equality is not taught in Iranian or Saudi Arabian public schools. It should not be taught anywhere least of all to young impressionable children. Man + woman=children is the basic building block of all society. Anything else claiming to be equal is a farce. “Common sense” It is parents’ duty to teach their children about these issues and about sexual morality in general. In fact the Dept for Education’s own guidance issued in February 2019 acknowledges the role of parents as a child’s first teachers. It actually states that schools must work closely with parents when planning and delivering these lessons. However, as we’ve seen in Birmingham and elsewhere, some heads are riding roughshod over parents’ wishes. If pupils were being taught just that then it might defuse the current conflict. However, evidence shows that children are in fact being taught that LGBT activities are equally valid choices and even that they are acceptable within Islam. This goes beyond toleration of differences and challenges the very essence of the Abrahamic religious belief that sex should take place within marriage and only between a man and a woman. The government has consulted parents in drawing up the new legislation. That is true. However, the government has chosen to ignore their feelings. There have been two public consultations. Over 23,000 responded to the first one between 2017-2018 with only a small proportion (page 35) saying primary school children should be taught about gender and sexual identity. In a second consultation (page 33) launched in 2018 only 29% of people supported teaching LGBT in schools as opposed to 71% against. The UK is a signatory to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, all of which uphold the fundamental right of parents to teach their children in line with their own religious and moral convictions. Most parents would like their children to go to school and learn the three R’s, not sexual choices. They are protesting peacefully against a violation of their fundamental rights as parents. To demonise them as homophobes is unacceptable and inaccurate. To the contrary, the extremists are those who insist on ramming their beliefs down everyone else’s throats. Equality is not the same as uniformity. We respect your right to be different under British law but that does not mean we have to accept or affirm your beliefs, just as we don’t expect you to affirm our view that adultery is a sin or that sex outside marriage is wrong. You cant bring up gay relationship without bringing up sex kids ask questions and we shouldn't be forcing this trash on them at such an early age its ridiculous its grooming and its wrong to tell parents that you know whats better for there kids than them back off

Cancelling the lessons will not change the fact that non-heterosexual people continue to exist. Always have, always will. You're just just leading the children into ignorance. Bad parenting.

The question is what makes someone gay? It's not just to love someone of same gender. I love my brother's, mates etc who are all male so now that I love them makes me gay. That's how a child will understand this stuff. What makes someone gay is to have sexual feeling for same sex that's the difference that is the boundary from being straight and being gay not just to love the same sex person but to have sexual feelings. Now when they teach this crap to little kids them kids will want to know am I gay because I love my best friend at school. Confusing the child and then at that tender age they want to know if just loving someone doesn't make you gay then what does? Now we get into sexualising children. This is all part to destroy religion and traditional society

@@alexanderthegreat7213 You forgot about romantic attraction. That's also the difference. And just as we only teach kids about romantic love and not sex when talking about heterosexual couples, we should teach them the same with homosexual couples. There's no reason why they should know about sex to respect people who aren't straight.
