Parichamuttu Kalli is an adaptation and Christianization by the Nasrani of the ancient martial art form of Kerala known as Kalaripayattu. Though in the modern age Parichamuttu Kalli has become a dance done for entertainment, historically it was a form of martial practice done by Syrian Christian soldiers. Historically the Syrians played a major role in the armies of ancient Malabar and were known to be expert marksmen as well as sword and shield warriors.
