World’s Columbian Exposition, fair held in 1893 in Chicago, Illinois, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s voyage to America, was the first to be electrified, also the most beautiful.

Yes and just as magnificent, but unfortunately the city DEMOLISHED it soon after. What a Crime.

Claude Debussy was probably inspired to compose several works after attending the fair and hearing an Indonesian orchestra. "Estampes" comes to mind.

Honestly, enough with the neverending racist, xenophobe baiting... It's unbearable. These people wouldn't believe France is part of a prosperous brotherly Union with Germany... they wouldn't believe they'd be connected by a tunnel under the sea with our British brothers, they wouldn't believe we have quality universal healthcare, education, paid weekends and holidays, and above all, they wouldn't believe that their kids and grand kids would enjoy a century of uninterrupted peace and prosperity. Just because YOU are an ignorant xenophobe doesn't mean everyone else is/was.

The exhibitions are held in different parts of the world each time. They continue to be organized today, with the next one scheduled for 2025 in Japan.
