I like how respectful this movie is not just to Holmes’ character but Watson’s as well. He’s able to keep up with Sherlock in his investigations and even match intellect at moments. I like how he’s even able to put his military history and knowledge to use.

On the rooftop, a lesser Watson might have asked “but why use a bomb if you’re just going to shoot him?” To which Holmes would have replied “to conceal the killing, my dear Watson. No one looks for a bullet hole in a bomb blast.”

I love that his depiction of dr. Watson show him as a competent doctor and a war hero, instead of a bumbling buffoon like many previous portrayals
@austinmorrison69535 ай бұрын
@@TBStudios91never understood that. Why is Watson so often this bumbling sidekick? Wouldn’t it make more sense for Holmes to have someone so intelligent as his partner?

The realisation of holmes that the bomb is not in the theatre but in the meeting hall then realising again that he could have caught moran only if he was at the theatre and not ran up to the hall is what shows moriarty's double plan to checkmate holmes.

I enjoy this movie the more I watch it, but despite the allowances for Moriarty's addiction to winning a convoluted game, I still don't quite get the need for Moran to snipe as well. You didn't conceal anything. You just shot a man in the head who was dead to rights anyway from the bomb.
@davidhujan86 Жыл бұрын
I know, right? The target is literally in the same room as the bomb. There was no need for a sniper.

What were the screenwriters thinking?

To make sure he dies.
@torandreasbelsaas Жыл бұрын
Most likely to ensure that the target did die, as he says by the end that he wants to own the bullets and bandages. By killing the owners of the company's he kets the Lions share of the profitt. And like Watson said, no one is going to look for a gunshot in a bombing.
@Exl6243 Жыл бұрын
My guess is that it’s to guarantee that he dies. Maybe Meinhard would be positioned in such a way that he survives the bomb blast.

My issue with this scene is you're already looking to bomb the place, why shoot the man as well? Most likely the man would be killed in the explosion, why shoot him too? It just seems like overkill. Also it just seems like a sloppy way to inform Holmes and Watson that Sebastian Moran was involved as well.
@deepakha1750 Жыл бұрын
What better way to conceal a killing? No one looks for a bullet hole in a bomb blast!
@kolajoabiola2790 Жыл бұрын
Meinhard's assassination was the main objective. The bomb was just a cover-up. It had to look like a random anarchist bombing to avert suspicion. All those other people who died in that room were collateral damage.

Moriarty wouldn't be Moriarty without assurance. Plus., even with them knowing, what can they do?. I mean moran even went to his wedding right?. He don't care
@saswataroy6516 Жыл бұрын
You answered your question yourself.The man would be killed "Most likely." Moriarty wanted him dead no matter what.He didn't leave anything to chance.Because in bombing there always remains a small chance of survival.
@ironvader502 Жыл бұрын
Because Moriarty both needed to make 100% sure he was dead, AND needed to make it look like an attack of french terrorists to rile up tensions between Germany and France.

Interesting choice of words. Data was not such a popularly used word back then, nor was it in common parlance to talk about gathering information. Poor dialogue writing or Holmes being extraordinary for no reason in his choice of words?
@saintroddy2 жыл бұрын
Holmes exclaims "Data, data, data! I cannot make bricks without clay!" in the Adventure of the Copper Beeches, one of the original short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. So it would be an apt saying for both the time and the character.
