Not if you have to watch the Olympics on American television. It is the worst experience. Not only the intrusive commercials but NBC tailors the Olympics for the "American" audience. Sad stories of athletes beating the odds, and the sole focus on only American athletes that one may think only Americans participate. Stopped watching that nonsense decades ago. Suffered through the Redneck games in 1996 or as some might call it, the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

@@itsmeprasad1987 sorry, but I'm not going to go to a place where prices have been artificially increase, just because the Olympics. On top of that, the situation is dire in France due to political instability, terrorist attacks, racism, a government of Nazis, high temperatures because is summer, unfriendly locals and huge crowds whatever you go. Maybe if you come from Mumbai are used to it, but not me. That's not counting expensive air fares, funny immigration officials and an stinking city. Yes I have been to Paris in summer, smells like your local public toilet in Sudan. No thank you. I avoid Europe. Overrated and riddled with bad services. And now locals don't like tourists either, with huge protests taking place all over Europe against tourists. No thank you. I want fun in my holidays, not misery. That happened here in Los Angeles back in 1984 (I've always lived in the Los Angeles area). The hotel owners complained about the lack of bookings a few weeks before the start of the Games and the Organizing Committee simply told them it was their own fault for increasing prices and to drop their prices if they wanted more customers. Simple economics.

No mention of the bed bug infestation in Parisian hotels? That was a news story for MONTHS and now no talk of it. I went once in 1995 and things were expensive then. I can only imagine now. I worked for a salon owner from France for 16 years. He brags about being from Paris and thinks he's better than everyone else. Also, his nephew works in the salon doing hair and is French too and thinks he's better than everyone here because he speaks French. I've had many friends and met many European people in Europe when I lived there for 1 year. From my experience I see that French people think they're better than everyone because they feel French is the best language in the world to speak. Why would I want to visit a country where I'm surrounded by people that think this way!

My city (Toronto) flirted with Olympic bids in the 1980's and 1990's and even I was excited for that to happen. But we lost to Atlanta and the desire has lessened greatly to bring such attention and spectacle to the city. The majority here would not support the headache and risk of terrorism this would bring. Let alone the cost. If the summer Olympics are to continue it should have a permanent home in Athens with structures continually in use and ready for the event every 4 years. The winter olympics need to be somewhere with guaranteed snowfall. Scandinavia somewhere perhaps.

If you already live in the host city it’s not an issue. As a Sydneysider the 2000 games were 2 of the most amazing weeks I can remember. The 2032 games are in Brisbane (1 hour flight away) but I doubt I would even consider going mainly due to the cost.

We got the Pan Ams games a few years back, that wasn't too bad. Not quite as high profile as the Olympics, but I honestly prefer the reduced scale and costs, and we still saw some benefits of new and upgraded sports venues. I would never want Toronto to get the Olympics, I've seen too many cities dig themselves into a financial hole to support it. It took Montreal 30 years to pay off its Olympic bill.

People took that advice, so hotels ended up empty and traffic was very light.

I read and sometimes contribute to travel forums and all the advice I see is, stay away from Paris because of the Olympics. Travelers are expecting crowds and inflated prices. I remember something similar happened in Athens years back. I personally stopped watching the Olympics years ago when they decided to have the summer and winter Olympics in different years. It felt more special when it was every four years as there was anticipation. Now, with an Olympics once every two years, it's like an everyday occurrence.

Maybe when you try to destroy national pride and unity, labeling it as something that is bad, and, on the flip side, you preach global community and global citizenship, maybe, just maybe, it will have the negative side effect of making people care less for national pride in their respective country’s sports teams. And with less pride in their teams and country, maybe it will lead to less viewership and less care about the Olympics.😮
