HCB probably seldom had the use for a wide aperture. I'm guessing he was shooting at f5.6 or f8 a lot. Back then, they knew shallow dof wasn't a good thing. But thanks to the internet, we've forgotten this... As for the 50mm... I often feel too tight with a 50, which is why my most used lens is a 35mm-e. To each their own 😜 Then again, it might just be I have more experience with a 35, so I tend to naturally see things that way... Loved the photo of the kid running and the expression of the one who saw you with a camera 😁

Hey Thomas. Funny because I'm heading downtown to film a "manual focus" session. I wonder what my hit rate will be ? 😊

@@lazharcaptures How much experience do you have with MF? And how much depth of field will you have? And how much time will you give yourself to make each picture? These are all very important points for your success rate... In the good ol' days, they were using small apertures to make it easier...

Hello my friend. Welcome back to the channel. I'll be testing another focal length soon, so if you have any questions before purchasing your lens, let me know 🙂

HCB could tell you what was going to be in the frame before he had raised the camera to his eye. That's what shooting a lot with just one focal length will give you. Oh and probably had gotten the focus right long before he was making the exposure. Back in the day, they used to know at what distance they wanted their subject to be because that gave them a chance to set the focus once and never worry about it any more. That and zone focusing (a very wide zone of focus, the opposite of the current fashion with very shallow dof). As for 35 or 50, you will ready need to experiment with both to know which you works best for you. Or you could use a 40, if you find one for your camera. I wish 40mm-e was more common...

@@ThomasParis tanx much for the advise will have to find it ..I appreciate it sir...40mm is a nice focal point it would be similar to the Ricoh GR iii x. I use APC camera the canon M50 mark 1 and the ef 24mm is the 40mm equalvalent

@@TheUrbandilema Keep in mind you can try different focal lengths without buying a new lens. Rental is a good option but so is using a zoom lens and always keeping it at the same length. Not as convenient as a prime lens, but a cheaper way to test different ideas... Oh and when you do try a focal length, please do it for more than a couple of minutes. It takes time to get your brain used to it... At least, it does with my own brain, but maybe I'm just a slow learner.
