@bloupinho
@bloupinho 3 жыл бұрын

My intent was to identify myself as a singular American woman, implying that I do not represent •all• American women or citizens.

Also, since the US are so far and the UK so close (it takes only 3 hours of train to go to London from Paris), I think it's easier for us to speak with a British-ish accent because it the accent we're taught in school and it's easier to visit or even meeting British people is easier. The problem is nowadays, American TV shows and stuff are so popular, we tend to mix both, between what we learnt in school and what we hear in TV shows.

All of these people did so well! Their English is so so much better than 90% of English people's French. They all did great. And agree with the people that say accent doesn't matter at all. As long as you can make yourself understood that's all that matters. An accent is beautiful and interesting. You don't need to pretend to be English in order to speak it. My French accent is terrible.

Arty Dabadoo in the rest of Western Europe everyone’s English is a lot better. We also hate the fact that French people never even try to speak English. If you say these people did well then the rest of Western Europe speaks English fluently. You won’t hear this much in the Netherlands where I’m from.

@@Hallo-ex8nk Sorry, I know when we were in Amsterdam over Christmas I was amazed at the fluency of English spoken. It always makes me feel very embarrassed that I can't do the same with their language. Brits aren't given the opportunity in schools to learn other languages from a young age. Not enough emphasis is put on learning any other language. I personally think these Parisians did well because I know that us English are particularly bad at French. It always amazes me when abroad at how willing people are to converse in English.

How the fuck can you compare English and French?! English is world's main language and a lot more important than French. If you don't know English no matter where you live you are pretty much illiterate. On the other hand if you don't speak French and u don't live in France it doesn't mean much at all.

Arty Dabadoo yeah but I also have got to admit that we have a lot of foreigners in particularly the centre of the city, so they speak English fluently anyway. But nonetheless almost everyone in the Netherlands speaks English because we learnt it at school. @@artydabadoo1301 Well you can't really compare english to french though... English isn't just your ordinary language, it's the "world language" pretty much. Everywhere you go in the world, you expect people to know english. I used to love the fact that I was from Louisiana because I spoke Cajun French and some of my friends couldn’t 😂☠️ (typically 5 year old) well I grew up and realized that actual French people had an accent, and I didn’t🙃 now I just sit in a corner of sadness while I think about how I don’t have a sexy accent

I was friends with a former Parisian that was a born and bred Frenchman. Both himself and his wife often travelled to Paris and other French places to teach English. His name was Phillipe. His sons Martin, Nicholas and Patrick were born in Australia and have pure Australian accents

I love hearing people talk in a different language and hearing their accents, whatever their mother tongue is, whatever language they are trying to speak

As one of the many Americans learning multiple languages, I think this is really cool and cute. Bilingual people are so awesome.
