We installed the Kooks headers and mid pipe in about 2 hours from start to finish. Wow! Seat of the pants dyno sure is impressive and the sound is nice.

I have a full Kooks exhaust, Airaid cold air intake and had the car tuned. It made 407hp and 409 tq at the tires. Its a L99 auto as well.

That "spear" is called a merge spike. It helps direct the flow of the exhaust more efficiently.

The Kooks headers HF Cats will hook up to your stock X pipe and the back half of your stock axle backs with no problem. So, any after market Axle backs that will hook up to the stock X pipe will be OK. If you have an automatic L99, I recommend you buy an aftermarket X pipe and get rid of the resonator between the Cats and axle backs. The resonator really alters the good sound you're looking for and it's HEAVY. What you want is aftermarket Axle backs to hook to your system. Good luck!

All of the "experts" say the 1 7/8 are the better choice for the 6.2 and that's what I used...huge difference in power. Good luck with your Camaro and let me know how it comes out.

We don't have emissions testing where I live, but others on the Camaro5 forum have passed their emissions testing even in California with the same set-up. It has catalytic converters and all systems are connected as from the factory. I think the Kooks has an emmissions certification on this product, but not sure.

Thank you for posting this video. I was hoping this was something that could be done with a car lift and a little bit of tinkering experience. But I think Ill save it for the experts!

Strange...I didn't get a code for at least a month or so and then received the typical rear oxygen sensor code. The reason it does that, is that long tube headers place the rear oxygen sensors further away from the exhaust ports and the exhaust is cooler at that point. The rear sensors have no interaction with the ECU unit and whey you get a dyno tune, they turn that feed back out and it never reappears. You need a tune to get the most out of long tube headers anyway, so it's no big deal.

Thanks...there's no better sound in all the world than a small block Chevy at 3500 - 4500 rpm. Ford's modular V8 sounds good as well...just doesn't run like a Chevy.
@ParisTNDude11 жыл бұрын
It wasn't absolutely necessary, but for most (not mine) it would throw a code for rear 02 sensors and a tune turns it off. Also, the headers without a tune will not maximize the power. With no other mods and a tune, the butt dyno alone told you you had gobs of power. If you do headers also do a tune, even if it's an email tune from like Jannetty racing...I did that and it was great.

No, didn't have to disconnect the steering shaft. It was close to a rubber or plastic part but passed without a problem. Thanks for the question.

Incidentally, I traded this car for a 2012 LS3 stick shift car. Before it went to the dealer, I removed all the mods that I could including the headers and HF cats, axle back exhaust etc. I did that work myself in my garage on jack stands and it was not difficult at all. You have to get both front and rear of the car as high as you can on jackstands otherwise you can't slide the headers from the bottom. I'm going to install those headers on my 2012 myself the same way I took the others off!

Another nice video sir. Very well done. I also have the Kooks headers going into their high-flow cats than into the Borla S-Type cat backs. Love the Kooks quality and sound. Just as good as the American Racing headers for less money. Keep the great vids coming!

Thanks for the comment. Incidentally, I traded that Camaro for an LS3 Camaro SS with 6 speed manual. Just this weekend, I installed these headers on the new car...strange, they sound different, but still nice. These headers make lots of horsepower that you can feel in your first ride afterward. Going to install my Jannetty tune today which should really wake this new Camaro up as it did on the l99.
@ParisTNDude12 жыл бұрын
I had the l99 running really decent with a dyno tune, headers, full exhaust and a great CAI....it ran 12.4s @ 112...that's C6 Corvette territory. Anyway, first runs with the LS3 weren't that impressive...as I expected. Now I have all the mods that were on my l99 so we'll see. Thinking of heading to test and tune thursday in Memphis.

I couldn't find a point where it showed the muffler. It sounds straight-pipped through the muffler with the resonator obviously in-tact (good idea on the L99 if cylinder deactivation isn't tuned out). So, was the exhaust changed past the resonator?

@robojn06 No problems with the Janetty tune...if you buy the SCT tuner from Janetty he will email you a tune custom made for your car. You just simply tell him your mods and he'll set you up. When I initially did my tune, it was like adding a supercharger....not really but it flat woke the car up. Do it...you won't be sorry.

When you say Janetty, who is that? the free tune sounds like a good deal!
@ParisTNDude13 жыл бұрын
@DuhKoDuhCantrell Jannetty is one of the better LS engine tuners in the country. Google it and you'll find him. He sells Camaro/Corvette mod parts as well and he has close to the best prices. When you install long tube headers, you won't get the max power until you get an ECU tune. You buy the headers and an SCT tuner from Jannetty and he will email you a custom tune for your car. He dynos about every possible combination of mod parts and will actually give you a better tune than dyno tunes.

Awesome sound! I just got a 2015 Camaro SS L99 and put SLP Loudmouth I exhaust on it. I'm about to get the Rotofab cold air intake & Kooks long tube headers installed w/HP cats + dyno tune. Is the resonator installed on this vehicle at the end of the video? It looks like it's still there? Did you notice a big sound difference when taking it off?

Corsas are awesomely good axle backs that should make your Camaro sound really good. It depends on the model....my last Vette had Corsa touring and they were perfect...not too loud or too soft. Headers will give you car a more aggressive, deeper, race car sound....do it!
