From watching most of Park's translated interviews on KZbin, this translator has done the best in exactly expressing what Park was saying. Excellent!

How can he direct a movie in the U.S. properly if he doesn't speak English. And he had to work with people who only speak English.

This is the problem with you people. You'll are limited by your own spheres of reference. Things like creating art and making movies - transcends all this pettiness and bigotry. Communication happens through the exchange of bigger ideas not tied down by the parameters of language and expression; the way they work in America is that nobody goes to work until everybody knows what they've got to do. So 'information' can be passed through various means - be it through written briefs or translations. Also, CWP speaks English - considering the fact that he is a refined, methodical and intellectual filmmaker - he chooses not to open himself up to misinterpretation on an open platform. On a movie set, alternatively, where limited people and controlled opinions exist - he feels more comfortable to speak. He didn't tell me this - if you only paid attention to the interview, you would have got the answer to your inappropriate question.

So what? have you seen the film? it was brilliant. if Park Chan Wook can't speak English but can still make a fucking brilliant film like Stoker. I have no problem with it, i don't care even if he speaks High Valyrian or Elvish.

Many great foreign directors have done that in Hollywood since the 30's including Fritz Lange to Sergio Leone to Park Chan Wook. That's what made Hollywood and the US great. It welcomed anyone with great talents. Even if they can't speak English.

He actually does speak English well. Although I do find it odd that he never does so in interviews.

The translator was terrible. She didnt quite pick up the subtle nuances and was too literal in her translations. Obviously didnt really understand the artistic slant in the way the questions were asked and answered. She also completely missed the shoes question. She was awful. Made the director seem stupid.
